Instructor – Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing Program

About the Job

ORGANIZATIONAL FUNCTION AND RELATIONSHIPS:


 


To instruct adult students in the Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing Program with an emphasis in auto body welding, sheet metal repair, refinishing, and color matching. Instructors develop instructional strategies and curriculum as a regular part of their work, and are encouraged to serve on committees.


 


This position reports to the Dean – Construction, Manufacturing, Apprenticeship, and Transportation. 


 


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:


 


The following duties are typically expected of this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other duties may be required and assigned.


 



  1. Responsible for instructing courses in the Auto Collision Repair and Refinishing Program, including but not limited to the following subject areas: auto body electrical and mechanical components, auto body welding, auto body sheet metal repair, hazardous material training, safety training, refinishing and color matching, and corrosion protection.

 



  1. Plan, develop, and implement appropriate instructional strategies, including alternative delivery strategies when appropriate.

 



  1. Assist and advise students who have problems with assignments, tests, grades, course content, career concerns, and other academic matters.

 



  1. Evaluate student performance in courses taught by the instructor.

 



  1. Actively work with other personnel in recruitment, retention, and student support, such as assistance to students with disabilities, English Language Learners (ELL), and others.

 



  1. Develop and maintain curriculum in collaboration with Dean, Associate Dean, program director / faculty, and WTCS representatives.

 



  1. Participate in instructional and curriculum articulation activities with other programs and other divisions of instruction.

 



  1. Comply with college policies and directions regarding student testing, record keeping, advanced standing, providing grades on a timely basis, maintaining office hours for student assistance and counseling, etc.

 



  1. Assist students in developing work experience assignments such as internships, work-study assignments, team projects, etc.

 



  1. Maintain certification as an instructor with the Wisconsin Technical College System.

 



  1. Comply with all aspects of Board policies, work rules, and the appropriate collective bargaining agreement.

 



  1. Attend division, department, and advisory committee meetings.

 



  1. Develop and implement strategies aimed at the retention of students of color, female students, and students with disabilities.

 



  1. Assist in marketing of program by participating in career exploration activities, college open houses, campus tours, etc.

 



  1. Participate in appropriate staff development activities such as diversity awareness, technology training, etc.

 



  1. Design instructional activities, including but not limited to multicultural infusion, in a variety of non-traditional formats to meet student and program needs.

 



  1. Demonstrate a commitment to the college values of excellence, respect, and integrity.

 


KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES & SKILLS


1.      Knowledge of current educational methods and strategies, including learner-centered instruction, assessment, evaluation and collaborative techniques and strategies that address closing the gap in student access and achievement across race, gender, and disability.


 


2.      Work experience as an automotive collision technician performing job duties including, but not limited to:


a.       Body repair – interior/exterior.


b.      Estimating.


c.       Uni-body and frame straightening.


d.      Welding, heating, and cutting vehicle components.


e.       Paint application and color correction.


 


3.      Knowledge of auto body equipment, diagnosis, maintenance, trouble shooting and repair procedures.


4.      Knowledge and experience with the I-CAR Collision Repair Course and Finish Matching.


5.      Knowledge of personal and equipment safety.


6.      Skill in the use of educational technology and alternative delivery methods.


7.      Skill in communications and human relations with populations having diverse socio-economic and racial backgrounds.


8.      Skill in oral and written communications.


9.      Ability to interact with business and industry to establish partnerships.


10.  Ability to use the computer as a management, instructional and diagnostic tool.


11.  Ability to establish and maintain strong linkages to community, industry, dealer, and independent businesses.


12.  Ability to work in a team environment.


QUALIFICATIONS:


1.   Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent (based on a combination of academic training and related work experience).


2.      Two (2) years (4000 hours) of related work experience in a position in which a student would logically work after graduation from the program.


3.      ASE-Certification in at least two of the following areas: 1. structural analysis and damage repair, 2. non-structural analysis and damage repair, 3. mechanical and electrical components, 4. painting and refinishing, and 5. damage (analysis & estimating).
