Job Description:

Commodity Analyst Intern: The Allstate Corporation (NYSE: ALL) is the nation's largest publicly held personal lines insurer. Widely known through its "You're In Good Hands With Allstate" slogan, Allstate provides insurance products to more than 14 million households. The Sourcing and Procurement Solutions department within Allstate initiates/coordinates the efforts of employees, buy teams and advisory boards to strategically source one or more professional services spend categories. This includes formulating policies and procedures which govern the internal usage of these spend categories. Procurement evaluates the research, analysis, and needs assessment to obtain necessary goods or services at a low cost, while meeting pre-established service and performance standards. The Sourcing and Procurement Solutions department currently has two summer intern openings for Commodity Analysts. These positions will assist a variety of teams with day-to-day activities in the procurement of related commodities, projects and processes and the management of associated suppliers. It involves working with multiple internal and field business units performing responsibilities listed below: Sourcing: - Work with internal business client(s) to develop scope and project specifications and requirements.
- Conduct research/analysis on both industries and suppliers (including financials)
- Assess impact of transitioning to new supplier
- Develop and execute Requests for Proposals/Information from suppliers
- Create and implement scoring models to compare supplier proposals
Negotiations: - Solicit supplier information
- Negotiate rates and contract terms with suppliers
- Coordinate contract development process (e.g. Non-Disclosure Agreements, Professional Services Agreements and Statements of Work) with clients, Legal, Risk Management, Allstate Information Security and suppliers
- Work with clients and suppliers to develop Statements of Work to include services to be performed, deliverables, performance standards and measurement metrics
Contractual Performance: - Develop performance standard reporting tools
- Monitor supplier performance in terms of contractual standards
- Work with suppliers to address performance deficiencies
Demand Management: - Analyze internal spend
- Understand buying patterns
- Create company policy to control and consolidate spend
- Identify future opportunities for savings
General: - Maintain files associated with specific projects and suppliers
- Maintain and provide up-to-date project lists and periodic status report updates
- Coordinate client satisfaction surveys
- Compile monthly/quarterly business reports in a timely manner
- Assist in special projects as needed
- Complete all other tasks and duties assigned
Education: - College degree in progress. Expected Graduation Date of 2011 Preferred.
- Undergraduate degree in Supply Chain Management specialization
Experience Required: It is beneficial, that the applicant has coursework experience in the area of procurement/ supply chain management knowledge and experience Beginner Skills in the Following Areas: - Financial / Analytical / Research
- Communications (verbal / written / interpersonal)
