BUSINESS OVERVIEW OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE/SOURCING
Op Ex Sourcing is a corporate strategic sourcing group that serves Tyco global business units by identifying alternative sourcing strategies to meet their needs. Beginning with concise specifications and well-planned negotiations, Strategic Sourcing strives to maximize contract value while maintaining strict quality standards. Strategic Sourcing continuously works with strategic suppliers to develop and capture additional value within the supply chain through productivity initiatives and supplier collaboration.


JOB OVERVIEW

Location: Central, NJ
Reporting to: Global Category Director, Professional Services

The candidate chosen for this position will join the 2010 EDGE Summer Internship Program. The intern will be a member of a cross-functional, multi-divisional team which is responsible for developing global sourcing and purchasing strategies for Tyco. Interns will learn about the basics of contract negotiation, mitigating corporate risk, and improving other relevant dimensions of the contract such as delivery, quality, and service levels.

Roles & Responsibilities
Major responsibilities will span the sourcing project lifecycle while engaged in a number of diverse projects. These include:
• Collect and analyze data from internal and external sources for the categories
• Collaborate and communicate across multiple business units to collect and disseminate pertinent project information
• Prepare, populate and assess and post Request for proposals for clients
• Insure collection of relevant input and participation from the appropriate Tyco divisions
• Focal point and interface of various sourcing and contract workflow activities for the business unit, legal and sourcing group
• With manager’s guidance, assess, prioritize and execute multiple sourcing projects to appropriate timelines
• Prepare and present project summaries to team and to executive staff
• Assist sourcing teams in developing an effective cross-divisional sourcing strategy
• Work with the team to develop sourcing strategies that meet internal client needs based on total value
• Help in determining leverage for negotiations, advantages, disadvantages, threats, etc. of potential suppliers and analyze supplier markets using five forces analysis.
• Consult with users and category experts to understand Tyco needs.
• Interface with suppliers throughout project lifecycle.
• Become a power user of such tools as Ariba, Spend Data Warehouse to assist in managing projects and constructing electronic RFX’s.

Education
• Enrolled in Bachelor’s or MBA program.
• desired backgrounds/degrees include: The Sciences, Supply Chain, Engineering, Business Management, Accounting, Finance
Experience/Skills
• Ability to pull together ideas, issues, and observations into a clear and useful format, and balance several projects in a fast-paced team environment
• Ability to collect, analyze, and integrate information by leveraging appropriate PC/systems technology including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Strong analytical, interpersonal, communication, organization skills
• Strong project management skills
