Job/Research Summary                                                        


Perform responsibilities as an internal controls and tax compliance analyst in the Accounting Group. This position analyzes NREL and Alliance internal control risks and compliance exposures and provides mitigation recommendations to the Accounting Group Manager and CFO. When a course of action is approved, this position acts as a project leader guiding the responsible process owners in the implementation of the risk mitigation plan. The individual will be responsible for promoting and exhibiting ethical and professional behavior in a diverse work environment. Maintain compliance with applicable laws, regulations, DOE contractual requirements, and NREL and Alliance policies and procedures.


 


Job Duties                                                                        


Internal Controls:
•Analyze internal control risks.
•Research and recommend internal control strategy and best practices.
•System Administrator for internal control software system.
•Develop organization system to manage accounting policies and procedures.
•Develop metrics to report progress on internal control projects.
Project Management:
•Lead NREL’s OMB Circular A-123 efforts including identifying and documenting entity and process risks and controls.
•Lead implementation of approved compliance software packages.
•Develop risk mitigation plans for the Accounting Group Manager and CFO.
Tax Compliance:
•Analyze tax compliance exposure for company.
•Research and interpret tax law and regulations on federal, state and local levels, which may include but not limited to not-for-profit, payroll, and sales and use tax compliance issues.
•Complete and file tax forms as assigned by applicable due dates.
Additional Responsibilities:
•Advise management on applicable tax law and internal control compliance issues.
•Train accounting staff in effective control risk mitigation by using appropriate internal control procedures and by guiding staff in their development, organization, and enhancement of desk procedures.


 


Required Education and Experience                                         


Relevant Bachelor's degree and 5 years experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.


 


Additional Basic Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities             


Thorough working knowledge of GAAP, GAAS and Sarbanes-Oxley concepts. Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills with a variety of customers and management levels. Must be detail oriented. Meeting critical deadlines is a must. Extensive knowledge of personal computers, integrated business systems, flowcharts and spreadsheets.


 


Preferred Qualifications                                                        


• Master's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration or equivalent relevant experience.
• Certified Public Accountant
