Interpreter

Basic Functions: Provides assistance to clients and medical staff with limited English proficiency to improve the quality of and access to medical services for clientele. Sign Language Interpreter should combine the ability to interpret both the cultural and linguistic needs of the client. Provides sight-translation of relevant materials to enhance patients' and families' comprehension of medical procedures, treatment, discharge instructions, patient and family education, and follow-up care. Follows guidelines related to confidentiality at all times. Provides interpreting services effectively, with accuracy of meaning through the use of medical, business, and general terminology. The communication triad may include, but is not limited to, interpretation for nurses, nursing assistants, physicians, surgeons, technicians, clerical staff, auxillian staff, pastoral care, teaching staff, and mental health professionals.
Minimum Qualifications: Sign Language Interpreter High school diploma or equivalent Previous medical interpreting experience or extensive experience as a Sign language teacher
Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in health care administration or related field Previous hospital interpreting experience Certified interpreter
