Position Description

Primary responsibility is to manage the investment buying process outside of regular buying cycle process with one of McKesson¿s largest vendors. Will focus heavily on negotiating and tracking commitments with vendors and integrating purchases into the Inventory Management event buying process.



Key responsibilities include managing the regular bid process, negotiate and manage committments with key suppliers, work cross functionally to maximize investment purchases on "event" buys such as cost increases, flu, deal buys, marketing promotions and other deal buys; maintain historical competitive bid costs from suppliers to better negotiate costs; submit purchase orders; work with distribution centers on shipment or product issues; and work with product managers to meet financial goals.



Responsible for obtaining materials, components, equipment, and services. Checks requisitions, obtains quotations, examines bids, and makes awards. Develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate. Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to maintain inventory at planned levels. As required, monitors the cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. May evaluate vendor reliability.

Additional Knowledge & Skills

3 years experience in investment buying. Other experience to include managing financial goals and negotiating with multiple sources. Must have strong negotiation skills, knowledge of contract compliance and teh ability to balance risk/reward for the company. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Access required.

Minimum Requirements

8+ years purchasing experience

Education

4-year degree in related field or equivalent experience
