Description:

Our client is about to embark on a very exciting, very cutting edge project.  

 

Software Engineer will develop and release Java Applications (Tools)

 

These tools perform the critical function of extracting data from existing sources and importing it into the project systems (Inventory System).

 

The tools will be web based and must be both easy to use and powerful in fully expressing the descriptive information about a resource within the standard data models and controlled indexing models.

 

Each resource type may have unique meta-data and indexing ontologies.

 

The tools must also implement methods to maintain data over time with ongoing updates from the original data sources. The tools will be implemented in both server side and browser side functionality.

 

The Software Engineer will work with other teams of developers, content managers, researchers and database managers in order to analyze user requirements, develop architectures, develop project plans and execute those plans.

 

This person will be responsible for all phases of the application development life cycle including: prototyping, requirements gathering, functional specifications, design, iterative execution, unit/integration/system testing and release management. He/she will participate in the planning and execution of project coordination and quality assurance functions.

 

 

Basic Qualifications

BA/BS in computer, information science or equivalent work experience is required.

 

Additional Qualifications

·         At least five years of software development experience with Java, JSP/JSF, XML, XSL, relational database, ontologies, SOA, web applications, and JavaScript are required.

 

·         At least 3 years experience in multi-tier or distributed systems development required.

 

·         Experience with CSS, MySQL, subversion, Ant, JIRA, Tomcat and Linux are highly desirable.

 

·         Experience working with both large and small teams is highly desirable.

 

·         Experience working with technical leadership, sponsors and end users are highly desirable.

 

·         Prior experience in the development of biomedical informatics applications and scientific software are highly desirable.

 

·         We are looking for candidates with the ability to prioritize and handle a wide range of tasks simultaneously, and possess good judgment, sense of initiative, and a detail focus.
