Program Description: The National Polar-orbiting Operational Environmental Satellite System (NPOESS) program is the nation's next-generation meteorological satellite system. Raytheon is part of the Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems NPOESS team and is responsible for development of the NPOESS ground segments including satellite command & control and environmental data processing. Raytheon's contribution to the NPOESS program will make possible more accurate and timely global weather and environmental data production. The Interface Data Processing Segment (IDPS) ingests raw data from the four NPOESS Preparatory Project (NPP) satellite sensors and generates more than 25 environmental products required for vital weather analyses and forecasts to support military operations, civil applications and scientific research. The IDPS software system provides a highly automated and integrated suite of six software subsystems: Infrastructure, Data Management, Ingest, Processing, Data Delivery and Data Quality Monitoring (DQM). Job Description: Raytheon is currently seeking a Java Software Engineer to support NPOESS program on the IDPS DQM software project. Key responsibilities include: - Drive technical solutions to key DQM subsystem technical challenges - Support design and development on key IDPS DQM subsystem - Quickly work with previously written code and make modifications as necessary - Provide analytical, problem solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills to identify and evaluate problems - Apply technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques to solve problems - Be an enthusiastic and energetic performer able to work in a dynamic, fast-paced, and sometimes pressured environment - Serve as a team player incorporating a team based success philosophy able to work as an effective team member on an Integrated Product team effort to achieve program success - Contribute to the completion of program and project milestones under the specific guidance of his/her immediate supervisor - Follow established software processes and procedures, development, documentation and maintenance/management of operations concepts, requirements (system, element, segment level), external and internal interfaces, and other software engineering work products/artifacts - Provide troubleshooting, and general support for the subsystem Required Skills: - Must have a BS degree in Math, Science, Engineering or related field or possess equivalent experience in lieu of a degree - Must have a minimum of 4 years object-oriented software development experience using Java in UNIX and Windows environments - Must have experience with XML - Must have strong knowledge of OO concepts - Must have the ability to quickly understand assignments and carry them out with minimal supervision - Must have the ability to perform software and system-level debugging, identify problems in established code and make modifications as necessary - Must have experience with UML design modeling in modeling tools such as Rational Rose, RSA, or Rhapsody - Must have experience with Eclipse, JBuilder X or other IDE - Must have experience with full lifecycle software development (design through maintenance phases) Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information.
