LABORATORY RESEARCHER II

Rutgers University Cell and DNA Repository (RUCDR) currently has an opportunity for a Laboratory Researcher II to be responsible for the technical, personnel and project management of the DNA Laboratory. Reporting to the RUCDR DNA Laboratory Director, the selected individual will act as the lead contact person for interacting with principal investigators (PIs) worldwide who use DNA and other biomaterials provided by RUCDR. The Laboratory Researcher II is responsible for implementing new technologies for DNA extraction and analysis; recruiting and training staff in the DNA Lab; prioritizing DNA Lab activities (DNA extraction, storage, distribution, etc); resolving sample identity and other quality control issues; interacting with other laboratory managers within RUCDR for efficient management of sample processing and distribution; interacting with Bionomics and Research and Technology Center (BRTC) staff at EOHSI (UMDNJ/Rutgers) for co-ordination of large scale DNA distributions; and performing other related duties as assigned.
The qualified candidate will possess a bachelor's degree in a related scientific field or discipline, preferably in molecular biology, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates comprehensive knowledge and understanding of research principles and practices. A Master's degree in Molecular Biology or related field is preferred. This position requires a minimum of five years relevant professional research and laboratory management experience; demonstrated experience with operation and maintenance of equipment for automated DNA extraction, genetic analysis using capillary electrophoresis and robotic systems for DNA distributions; as well as excellent communication and computer skills.
