LED R&D Systems Engineering Lead

About the Job

As a LED Research and Development Systems Engineering Lead at Micron, you will lead and manage the LED systems technology development projects and the systems engineering team through active involvement with die manufacturing, packaging, marketing and operations teams. Your overall goal will be to successfully develop cost effective, innovative and high performance systems level ideas from conception and implement into high volume manufacturing.

 
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Establishing technology and product roadmaps for high performance, cost effective systems solutions with robust electrical, thermal, mechanical and optical designs, as well as, with robust software/firmware features.
  • Understanding the implications and prioritization of systems engineering projects to the overall LED program goals and direction.
  • Managing and leading systems integration designs, architectures, system integration flow optimization, hardware selection/development, troubleshooting, characterization, and system process transfer to OEMs, as well as, developing and protecting intellectual property.
  • Interacting and maintaining close communication with groups such as R&D process development and integration, characterization, failure analysis, assembly manufacturing, product engineering, QA, suppliers/OEM providers, and marketing is key in order to ensure development of robust system level products that meet customer requirements.
  • Mentoring, developing and motivating LED R&D system engineers.
  • Interacting and maintaining close communication with key support groups.
  • Providing technical leadership that may influence program direction.
  • Understanding of technology complexity and effective technology decision making.
  • Representing systems engineering in providing cross department leadership in area of responsibility.
  • Working effectively with peers in other departments to develop and drive cross functional initiatives.
  • Representing the company externally in the areas of interfacing with vendors, suppliers, universities and research institutions, strategic partners and government.
  • Establishing LED systems technology roadmap and deliverables for cost effective, innovative and high performance systems level products.
  • Developing cost effective, innovative, and high performance systems level ideas from conception, implementing into high volume manufacturing and meeting customer requirements.
  • Leading and managing R&D systems engineering projects.
  • Leading and managing systems engineering team.
  • Leading and managing systems integration designs, architectures, process integration flow optimization, hardware selection/development, troubleshooting, characterization, process transfer, and fundamental research, as well as, developing and protecting intellectual property.
  • Interacting and maintaining close communication with groups such as R&D process development and integration, characterization, failure analysis, product engineering, assembly manufacturing, QA, suppliers/OEM providers and marketing.
  • Continually evaluating competitive product offerings and new technologies that will impact future R&D and product directions.
  • Represent systems engineering team and work effectively with peers in other departments to develop and drive cross functional initiatives.
  • Representing Micron externally in the areas of interfacing with vendors, suppliers, universities and research institutions, strategic partners and government, as well as, in conferences, technical organizations and trade shows.


Successful candidates for this position will have: 
  • Minimum five years of experience in systems design and integration, or application engineering, preferably in LED technology.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability of an engineering team.
  • A strong background and experience in systems design, integration and development, and product engineering.
  • An in-depth understanding of LED systems requirements for a wide variety of applications is beneficial.
  • In-depth knowledge of electrical, thermal, mechanical, optical, and software/firmware designs and architectures for high performance, innovative and cost effective LED systems.
  • A strong ability to organize, lead and manage a high performance systems engineering team and execute the projects.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • The ability to effectively accomplish projects in a timely manner.
  • The ability to work, interface, and communicate with a wide variety of people and groups in different areas of R&D, manufacturing, product engineering, and marketing, as well as customers and suppliers in various positions.
  • The ability to have a high level of motivation, self-direction and be goal-oriented.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Education: 
  • MS or PhD in Engineering; Electrical Engineering is preferred
