Position is located at our Heart Hospital Clinic at 3801 N. Lamar inside the Heart Hospital of Austin, 3rd floor.  On-site parking.


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

 

EDUCATION:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.

 

EXPERIENCE: 

Experience as a professional nurse. Cardiology experience preferred.

 

                                     Knowledge of professional nursing theory and practice

 to give and evaluate patient care.  Knowledge of organizational policies, regulations and procedures to administer patient care.  Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe working environment.  Knowledge of what can be delegated to ancillary personnel.  Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide on-going patient care.  Skill in identifying problems and recommending solutions Skill in record documentation, writing reports and responding to correspondence.  Skill in delegating duties to ancillary personnel in order to smooth the work flow.  Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.  Ability to communicate clearly.  Ability to function in a team nursing environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.

 

 

CERTIFICATE          

OR LICENSE:           Current Texas nursing license and current CPR certification.

 

FUNCTION:  Provides professional nursing care for Austin Heart patients following established standards and practices in a team nursing environment.

   

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

 

      1.                  Triaging patient issues ranging from minor complaints to emergency issues.

 

2.         Calling patients with results of holter monitors, event monitors, labs, echo, nuclear, etc. Plan for follow up including medication changes, future laboratory needs, and/or office visits.

 

3.         Patient education before and after procedures and/or initiation of new medication.  Proper documentation of education information using EMR. Provide information to patients about medications prescribed.

 

            4.         Scheduling procedures for physicians.

 

5.         Assist with scheduling office appointments and managing doctor schedules using Mysis software.

 

6.         Grant refill approval or denial for medications request from pharmacy line, faxed or written prescriptions based on established protocols.

 

7.                 Coordination of patient care with hospitals, home health and outside doctors' offices.

 

8.                 Coordinate transfer/admissions from outlying facilities/referring doctor’s offices.

 

9.                Ensures that all patient encounter forms are completed accurately and in a timely manner.

 

10.             Remain current with Business Office policies and procedures that affect the Clinical Department and staff.

 

11.             Monitor daily patient flow to ensure patient and provider satisfaction.

 

12.             Provide excellent customer service through all forms of communication with patients, internal and external providers, and the general public.

 

13.             Follows surveillance protocol per individual physician orders and uses EMR for documentation.

 

14.             Follows AH protocol on “Reporting Test Results to Patients”

 

OTHER DUTIES

 

1.                  Perform general office duties including but not limited to: assisting patients to exam rooms, processing physicians out box and handling physician mail.

 

 

2.                  Skills to include EKG and TMT if needed.

 

3.                  Operate all equipment in safe manner.  Comply with OSHA standards.

 

4.                  Accurately enter information in Mysis computer and ability to retrieve from  Misys and EMR.

 

5.                  Oversees Medical Technicians in the absence of Department  Supervisor.

 

6.                  Attend required meetings and participate on committees as requested.

 

7.                  Participate in professional development activities; maintain professional affiliations.

 

8.                  Maintains patient confidentiality.

 

9.                  Promote and represent Austin Heart in a positive and professional manner.

 

10.             Establish strong and supportive working relationship with all Austin Heart employees.

 

11.             Performs other duties as assigned.

 

RELATIONSHIPS AND INTERACTIONS:

 

1.         Reports to the Pod / Department Supervisor.

 

2.                  Regularly communicates with patients, physicians, hospitals and other medical providers. Frequent interaction with other Austin Heart staff.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination.  May require standing or walking for long periods of time.  Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.  Requires working under stressful conditions and working flexible hours.

 

 

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: 

May be exposed to bodily fluids and other conditions common to a medical environment.  Must be able to work flexible hours in order to meet the needs of Austin Heart.

 

EXCELLENT SALARY, BENEFITS & 401-K.  No nights, holidays or weekends.  Mon thru Fri, 8 to 5.
