Lab Technician III

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Lab Technician III position supports research and development activities focused on strategic business markets for Hot Melt Technology including Nonwoven and Tape & Label. This function reports to the Technical Section Leader.

PRIMARY DUTIES

In general:
Individual will be responsible for running hot melt pilot coating equipment, working with a variety of formulators and applications to provide samples for testing and evaluation. Lab bench work and performance testing is anticipated. Responsibility also includes maintaining coating, formulation and testing equipment in good working order. In addition, must manage the inventory of standard substrates and products. Individual is expected to keep the lab current with coating technology by maintaining relationships with adhesive co-suppliers.

Must be able to perform complex laboratory tasks and procedures accurately and expeditiously. Must demonstrate ability to communicate well with fellow employees, suppliers and customers. Must have the ability to take a problem in its most basic form and reach a satisfactory conclusion with little supervision.

Shall fulfill responsibilities as required by the Quality System for the site/business unit.



MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Combination of years of college chemistry (15 quarter credits = 1 year) AND/OR years of Industrial Laboratory experience, the sum or which totals 4 years.

- OR -

2 year Vo-Tech certificate in Laboratory Technology plus 2 years of Industrial Laboratory experience.

PLUS ABILITY TO PERFORM COMPLEX LABORATORY TASKS ACCURATELY AND EXPEDITIOUSLY WITH LITTLE SUPERVISION.

(Those candidates who have not completed one year of high school chemistry must complete at least 5 quarter credits of college chemistry.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience in running hot melt coating equipment such as extrusion, slot die or spray applications. Proficiency in running converting line operations. Working knowledge of hot melt technology. Comfortable working with Microsoft Office including Excel, Word and Powerpoint.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT
• Controlled lab environment requiring lifting 50 pounds max, reaching, bending and moving materials off / on pallets.
• Will be dealing with chemicals.
• Willingness to work overtime when necessary.
