Under general supervision, conducts investigations by assembling test setups, recording test data, conducting standardized tests, and assembling and disassembling products, materials and equipment.  Develops working knowledge of the job, product variety, test methods, instrumentation, systems, materials, standards, etc.

 

  • Builds and/or adapts setup and test equipment for performance of tests.  Performs standardized tests using general laboratory equipment.  Performs routine care of designated test equipment and work area.  Operates computer terminal to extract/input readily available information and to use available software.
  • Examines test samples, reads measuring instruments and reviews test data with supervisor.  Reads and interprets blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams and operational instructions.
  • Operates designated machines that may include furnaces, ovens, hydraulic equipment, electrical test equipment, temperature measuring devices, tensile testers, analytical balances, meters, hand tools, and special laboratory equipment as directed.
  • Receives instructions from and reports data to section heads, group leaders and personnel in own department.  Records observed or calculated data on appropriate data sheets.
  • Integrates continuous improvement concepts and techniques into all aspects of the job.
  • Performs other duties as directed.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic laboratory tests and record basic laboratory results.
  • Higher Secondary Education ( High School Diploma)

Additional Skills/Requirements

Candidate will be expected to work evenings when required. Main job function will be to prepare data used in final reports. Other task assignments may include sample preparation for testing. Candidate must be proficient with Excel spreadsheets (data entry, formula writing, graphing, formatting). Knowledge of Optics not required, but considered a plus.
