Shell Global Solutions is currently seeking a Laboratory Technicianfor their Port Allen, Louisiana location.

Responsibilities :
In this position, you will be responsible for providing support to external and internal customer analytical requirements. You will be responsible for maintaining conformance to analytical procedures including testing, instrument maintenance and documentation. You will also be responsible for performing daily testing and laboratory support functions and assisting all site personnel with special projects as needed and assigned.
 
  • Perform required testing on reference samples to ensure quality of results generated, responding to out-of-control signals on reference sampled SPC control charts
  • Following standard procedures while performing daily analytical testing on samples and entering analytical results in to quality reporting database in an accurate and timely manner for products produced at the Port Allen plant and other sites
  • Assuring compliance at all times to corporate and site ISO and analytical procedures, taking responsibility in updating or communicating a need to update procedures when necessary
  • Assisting supervisor with data review, reporting and customer contact as necessary
  • Assisting in writing procedures and work instructions for laboratory testing
  • Providing analytical support to development of new procedures
  • Perform required preventative maintenance and calibration on laboratory instruments
  • Working with vendors to schedule maintenance, calibration and service of instruments
  • Maintaining HAZ MAT certification at both DOT and IATA level and arrange for same and procedurally correct recycle of mercury and disposal of mercury containing waste
  • Safe laboratory operation including participation in audits, management of chemicals, and maintain a clean and hygienic work environment in the laboratory
  • Provide the plant with timely and accurate quality control and quality assurance test results
  • Act as an individual contributor to ensure safe and environmentally sound plant operations


Requirements :
  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Must possess a 2-year degree / diploma from an accredited university, or equivalent associates science degree with related lab experience or 5 years full-time analytical lab technician job experience (chemical/refinery preferred)
  • Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory information management systems and the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Ability to travel as required for training and company business
  • Experience preparing and presenting training sessions for new incoming Laboratory Technician
  • Must have the ability to read and understand technical manuals and lift and carry heavy hardware
  • Experience in writing laboratory procedures, policies and correspondence
  • Must be willing to work in excess of the normal 40-hour workweek, including non-standard hours and rotating shifts as required by business needs
  • Broad knowledge of chemical laboratory bench work practices
  • Experience working within a team environment laboratory
  • Experience in refinery testing methods and equipment, including and not limited to; distillation apparatus, RVP analysis, Flash Equipment, Ion and Gas Chromatography techniques, X-ray techniques, GC/MS, ICP, Nitrogen and Sulfur analysis, pH, Titration, UV and Spectrophotometers is preferred. S/he should be familiar with NPDES water testing protocol
