NanoImaging Services is looking for a full time research technician with good organizational skills and basic proficiency with computers who will be able to work independently in the laboratory after adequate training. The ideal applicant will have excellent hand-eye coordination and very steady hands with the ability to manipulate small devices. Previous lab experience is desirable but not required.
The lab duties will be centered on the technique of cryo-electron microscopy and all the ancillary equipment required to prepare specimens, operate a transmission electron microscope, and control the software that automates the acquisition and processing of images.
Duties, responsibilities
- Sample preparation, which will require use of various wet-lab equipment, robotic freezing devices, and other large instruments and the ability to follow a complex and exacting protocol.
- Operating an electron microscope with a high level of proficiency
- Setting up and monitoring specialized software that controls the automated acquisition of images form the transmission electron microscope
- Developing a comfortable ability to use the Unix operating system after training
Training will be provided for all of these duties and responsibilities.
