Laboratory Technologist
Boehringer Ingelheim is currently seeking a talented and innovative Laboratory Technologist to join our Toxicology and Safety Assessment department located at our US headquarters in Ridgefield, CT. As a Laboratory Technologist, you will serve as primary laboratory animal technician on preclinical toxicology studies completing all in life activities according to study protocols and Good Laboratory Practices. Receives daily tasking assignments from supervisory personnel and completes daily tasks with minimal supervision. Accountable to group supervisor for performance and management and Study Directors for scientific elements of a study. Functions as a member of work team by assisting others and actively promoting a team-oriented work environment. May be asked to lead teams charged with basic tasks in order to begin developing team leadership skills. Responsibilities: Function as an In Life toxicology study technician with primary responsibility for study activities. May coordinate activities of small teams during the conduct of the project Will complete technical procedures on multiple preclinical species used in toxicology (dosing, clinical observations, blood collection) according to Standard Operating procedures (SOPs). May be assigned to specialized tasks as a primary responsibility under the direction of a more senior technician, supervisor or manager Completes study-related activities according to applicable Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and SOPs. Communicates findings in a timely manner. Maintains study records and study notebooks and assists in responding to quality assurance audit findings pertaining to study records; Maintains and reviews study-related documents for accuracy, creates forms and completes study notebooks in a timely manner. Complies with applicable regulations, performing all work in a safe manner; Maintains proper records in accordance with GLPs, SOPs and policies Functions as a team member and displays the behaviors and attributes required to complete inter-dependent tasks within a highly dynamic work environment where success depends on coordination, cooperation and personal leadership among members.
Requirements: Associates or Bachelors Degree in biological, veterinary or animal science or equivalent experience. Experience in animal handling is required from course of study or previous experience in animal husbandry, preclinical toxicology studies, research laboratory or veterinary practice environment. Experience in dosing, clinical observations and blood collection is helpful but not required. GLP knowledge helpful but not required. Strict attention to detail and follow-up skills is essential; Excellent verbal and written communications skills are highly desirable; Basic skills in Microsoft Word and Excel are required Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to perform in a team environment and demonstrate personal leadership and behaviors supportive of team interactions No known allergies to animals. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. and work in a standing position wearing personal protective equipment for extended durations with periodic breaks. Must be able to wear respiratory protection devices.
