This is a 3 to 6 month contract to hire position with our client in Louisville, KY. This Technical Lead will provide high expertise of workstation design and application installation, testing and distribution.  The Lead Desktop Engineer will lead technical effort that is responsible for evaluation, design and implementation of technologies in their area of expertise, providing guidance and coaching to other professionals.
The Lead Desktop Engineer will be accountable for a client base of approximately 4000 PCs located at data center and field environments; 3 Windows platforms; desktop security management; desktop management software ; 4 forms of desktop communications (network, dial-up, broadband, wireless); a portfolio of over 350 internally developed and shrink wrap applications.
Responsibilities include:
" Provide technical leadership on new desktop (and complimentary) technologies, tools  and implementation.
" Recommends new technologies and strategic directions.
" Identifies, evaluates and makes recommendations for new products and technologies.
" Develops technical standards and ensures compliance with existing standards.
" Works with other RIS functional teams to develop standards in applications, messaging, security and networking.
" Interface with vendors to identify and purchase products and services.
" Acts as 3rd/4th level support in specific technology areas.
" Act as project manager on complex cross-team projects.
" Advise and mentor other Desktop Design Team members.
" Deploy & manage desktop applications through SMS & other desktop management tools.
" Monitor desktop compliance for current versions of application portfolio.
" Maintain desktop security patches & security software via MS-WSUS  & other desktop
