We currently have an opening for a Lead Packaging Mechanic within Vi-Jon’s Packaging Department at our Swan Drive location in Smyrna, Tennessee.  We offer an exciting and challenging work environment, a competitive salary and benefits package, and a business culture that rewards performance.

 

The Lead Packaging Mechanic acts as a coach by providing guidance, and support to Mechanics in the Manufacturing facility.  This position will be responsible for troubleshooting and performing mechanical repairs while partnering with T1 level Mechanics to ensure all lines are running smoothly.  The appropriate candidate will assist in machine installation and rebuilds as well as have the analytical ability to trouble-shoot as well as make efficiency and mechanical recommendations.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  

·         Troubleshooting skills and general mechanical ability

·         Ability to use precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, dial indicators, multimeters, etc.

·         The use and care of hand and power tools in the maintenance of manufacturing equipment

·         Ability to interpret graphic instructions, such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, etc

·         Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations and decrease turnaround times

·         Be reliable self-starter capable of working with little supervision in maintaining production equipment

·         Guide and coach small, efficient production teams to maintain high mechanical standards

·         Comply with Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures approved by the Occupational safety and Health Association

·         Develop and organize service and maintenance schedule

·         Perform lead mechanical responsibilities in their area

·         Understand and follow written and oral instructions in the English language

·         Work cooperatively with other plant employees and outside vendors

·         Work safely without presenting a direct threat to themselves or others

·         Assist technicians in assuring machinery, tools and equipment are in good working order

·         Provide mechanical support when necessary on any line

·         Seeks ideas and suggestions from Technicians on methods to improve quality, cost, delivery, safety and morale

·         Assist in solving quality problems and methods of improvement on the line

·         Report any unsafe acts from teammates or unsafe conditions

 

 

Requirements:

  • High school graduate or equivalent, Engineering Degree a plus
  • Technical training documentation in industrial maintenance and basic industrial electricity
  • 5 years minimum experience in manufacturing mechanical maintenance and repair work with at least 3 years in a leadership role
  • 3 years working in a GMP environment
