Description: Job Summary: Lead Hardware Design Engineer with development experience in digital design, debug, and verification for computer hardware platforms and systems. The engineer will apply experience to specify, design, test, productize, and support hardware modules and computer platforms that execute the NetApp Data ONTAP data management software. Design work will cover custom and ODM-partner developments. Essential Functions: Experience in digital design, PCB development, debug, and verification is required to develop NetApp hardware platforms. A strong digital design background and debugging experience in high-speed processor and chipsets, memory, PCI-Express bus, and data and storage network interfaces is essential, with disk drive interfaces a plus. Responsibilities include requirements definition, specification and test plan development, design, development, and debug of modules and systems, design verification testing, product release, and support for shipping products. The Lead Design engineer will interact with Digital Hardware engineers, Mechanical and Thermal engineers, Power engineers, Software and Firmware engineers, and Manufacturing engineers, often at remote locations. Collaboration and interaction with NetApp groups and remote teams, and ODM partners and suppliers is essential for development. - Good problem solving and analytical skills. - Good hardware development process experience. - Good verbal and written communication skills. Qualifications: Candidate must have experience in digital hardware/computer system design and product development. Experience with 32/64 bit processors, chipsets, memory, I/O buses and network interfaces is required. Experience with power supplies, DC/DC converters and analog design is a plus. Experience with PCB schematic capture tools is required. Experience with Cadence Allegro tool suite including Concept HDL, SpecctraQuest, OrCAD or equivalent are desired. Experience with signal and power simulation tools (e.g. Hspice) is a plus. Experience and familiarity with computer mother-board architecture, Intel Pentium/Xeon processors, Intel or AMD mother-board chipsets, PCI-Express bus, Ethernet, and data networking protocols. Familiarity with Hard Disk drives (HDD), FC, SATA, SAS, and SCSI is a plus. Experience managing component suppliers and Outsource design manufacturers (ODM) is a plus. Must possess good communication skills and work in a collaborative team environment. Must have skills to work independently and as part of a larger development team and have demonstrated ability to have completed multiple, complex technical projects.
