The Order Services team provides the technology platform for REI.com and our online business - one of REI's top sales channels. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineer who is expert at building systems that adapt and scale as the business grows.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Project lead and software developer for large and/or complex projects.
* Participates in requirements gathering for the project, vendor evaluations, and buy/build decisions.
* Participates in architecture definition. Recommends project-appropriate open source and COTS technologies and frameworks, software strategies, and design patterns.
* Performs software design and constructs software design artifacts.
* Participates in development of a project release planning strategy and iteration planning.
* Defines development task list for development iterations. May work with other teams in defining their task lists.
* Leads one or more full-time or contract developers in construction of software. Provides mentorship to other developers.
* Leads code and design reviews when required. Participate in pair programming as applicable.
* Leads daily stand-up for project team. Reports on blockers and escalates.
* Plans, estimates, and manages enhancement tasks for the team. Provides input into team resource plan. Drives construction of release plans. Notifies stakeholders of software releases.
* Leads defining and updating team's standards and process. Ensure and validate the standards are meet.
* Participates in on call rotation and leads root cause resolution.
* Participates in the hiring of full-time/contract developers.
5+ years engineering experience with large-scale applications and complex systems
5+ years experience leading the development of web-based applications in Java
Ability to apply highly complex principles, theories and concepts of the technical discipline and provide solutions to a wide range of complex tasks, projects and problems
Ability to work on multiple assignments simultaneously
In-depth knowledge of line of technical solutions for line of business supported
Experience with Java EH, Java application servers (particularly Web Sphere and Tomcat), SAO, Spring, Hibernate
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with both business and IT audiences
Previous ecommerce or retail experience preferred
Experience supporting projects using agile/lean software development techniques
Proven leadership skills for teams of 10+ people
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Ability to participate in on-call rotation for 24x7 service requirement
