The University of Maryland’s Public Safety Training and Technical Assistance Program (PSTTAP) is seeking one (1) Faculty Research Assistant to serve as a Legacy System Programmer/ Researcher who will be assigned to the State of Maryland's Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services (DPSCS), Information Technology and Communication Division (ITCD), to serve as a Mainframe System Programmer Specialist to be responsible for:
Researching user needs, installing, maintaining and turning the operating system or other supporting software products for the department’s IBM mainframe computer, thereby ensuring the availability of computer resources to the law enforcement and correctional communities. This position also involves conducting/ researching capacity planning studies, system analysis; researching/producing system statistics and documentation; implementing, testing and fine tuning new systems; performing ongoing systems maintenance and troubleshooting computer malfunctions; and assisting the preparation of disaster recovery plans. This individual will provide technical assistance and advice to the Department’s application programming staff. This position may be required to work on evenings, weekends and holidays and may be subject to call-in.
Preferred Qualifications:
Five to seven years of experience in any of the following areas:
Installing, maintaining, and monitoring any of the following software products, OS/390, z/OS, Transaction Server (CICS), DB2, IMS, MQ Series, CA- LIBRARIAN, CA-Top Secret, CA-TLMS. Mainframe Programming in COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, IMS and MQ Series. Experience should include the using of OS/390, z/OS, JES2, ISPF, SMP/E, SDSF, TSO/E, TMON monitor products, SAS, AbendAid, Xpediter, CA-LIBRARIAN, CA-TLMS and CA-Top Secret. Industry knowledge and experience in criminal justice information would be a plus.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Technology, Management Information Systems, or other information technology related field to include coursework in systems analysis and applications programming using fourth generation or other generally accepted programming languages from an accredited 4 year college or university.
Experience: Five year’s experience installing, maintaining, and tuning the mainframe operating system, or subsystems.

Licenses, Registration and Certificates: Employees may be assigned duties that require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license in the State of Maryland.
