POSITION SUMMARY:The Legal Assistant II performs a variety of complex confidential and administrative duties in support of an attorney or group of attorneys. Under the direction of the attorneys, assists in preparing complex legal documents and filing court papers, and provides administrative support including file maintenance, maintaining calendars and meeting schedules. Requires strong working knowledge of legal terminology and document formats, such as contracts, briefs, complaints and motions. Works independently on various projects with general direction from attorneys.



DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



- Provides administrative support to the attorneys including: typing correspondence and documents; maintaining attorneys' schedules including meeting coordination, call screening and travel arrangements; other support activities including preparing expenses reimbursements for attorneys, processing fees and dues, designing or preparing presentations and maintaining legal databases.



- Prepares various complex legal documents such as contracts and complaints under direction from an attorney. Assists attorneys in preparing and filing court papers. Organizes and maintains legal files. Coordinates closed file processes. Works on various projects assigned by attorneys.



KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:



- High school education with 8 plus years of prior administrative work experience in a business office



environment supporting a professional team.



- 4 to 7 years of experience in legal environment, preferred



- Strong working knowledge and understanding of Legal terminology and procedures



- Ability to operate a personal computer with a good working knowledge of the following software applications: Lotus Notes, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint



- Excellent typing skills with special attention to grammar and accuracy



- Ability to work with and maintain highly confidential information.



- Strong time management and organizational skills required to provide support to a large group of professionals.
