About Us
US Employee Services (USES) is an organization responsible for payroll and benefits delivery to all domestic GE employees and retirees, and in some cases global populations. GE US Employee Services is part of GE's Corporate component which is headquartered in Fairfield, CT. USES is is a matrix organization with various functional units such as; finance/accounting, healthcare, operations, quality/training, products, and service delivery. Interns are hired in all areas of the organization depending on their skill sets and interests. Interns typically commit to a one year assignment and all internships are paid. This defined program gives USES interns opportunities to learn about GE's business structure and key operating principles. Interns also have the ability to develop communication, public speaking skills as well as take part in various training and networking opportunities.

Role Summary/Purpose


Essential Responsibilities
Applicants should have an interest in learning about an operations based organization and/or pay and benefit administration. The assignment will allow the Intern to build core competencies needed to succeed in a business or legal environment. The following are general areas of responsibilities/functions that may be arise during your internship: * Legal research and writing in the fields of: benefits, tax, labor, trusts and estates, securities, and Bankruptcy * Litigation support * Privacy audits * Root cause analysis * Project management * Six Sigma Quality work/Process Improvements * Scorecard maintenance/Tool kits * Pitch Creation/Delivery * Survey Creation/Maintenance

Qualifications/Requirements
* Matriculation in an accredited local College or University in the Albany/Schenectady/Troy area, must be actively pursuing a four year business degree or advanced academic law degree. * Must have completed one year of law school by the end of the 2007/2008 academic year* Ability to commit to work a minimum of 15 hours per week during the academic semester and increased hours during semester breaks and summers. (Most interns average 20 hours/week during the academic school year, and 40 hours/week during semester breaks) * Ability to complete a 1 year internship commitment * 3.0/4.0 GPA or higher * Mature individual who demonstrates self-confidence * Self-starter * Effective interpersonal skills * Excellent oral and written communication skills * Solid technical and analytical skills, including the ability to identify trends and implement process improvements * Excellent teaming and influencing skills in order to operate effectively in a team-based environment * Must be willing to work in Schenectady, NY * Must be willing to submit to a drug screen and background check* Must have proper documentation to show eligibility to work in the US * For U.S. Employment opportunities, GE hires U.S. Citizens, permanent residents, asylees, refugees and temporary residents. Temporary residence does not include those with non-immigrant work authorization (F,J, H or L visas), such as students in practical training status. Exceptions to these requirements will be determined based on shortage of qualified candidates with a particular skill. GE will require proof of work authorization prior to employment.
