Legal Secretary
Position Summary:
The Legal Secretary performs a variety of secretarial duties for attorney(s). The Legal Secretary
also observes strict confidentiality of client matters and maintains positive
contact with clients, attorneys and staff. The Legal Secretary may be required to produce
high volumes of information in a fast paced environment under tight deadlines.
Essential Job Functions:
• Prepares correspondences, memoranda, other legal documents
• Reads, sorts and dates incoming mail and email
• Keep attorney’s calendar, screen telephone calls and take messages.
• Open new files, request conflict of interest checks, maintain client and general
files and electronic files in filesite
• Receive clients and visitors, maintain good public relations with clients and
observe confidentiality of attorney-client relationships.
• Produce travel and expense reimbursements and check requests
• Assist other secretaries when available
Knowledge and Skills:
• Advanced MS Office VISTA skills along with a typing speed of 70+ wpm required.
• Exceptional administrative skills: scheduling reservations, meetings and travel
• Exceptional attention to details with the ability to organize and prioritize multiple
tasks and complete them under time constraints as expected by attorneys.
• Knowledge and proficient in electronic court filing procedures required.
• Confident and cooperative team player with good customer service skills
• Flexible and independent self starter capable of working with little supervision.
• Superior ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing,
Experience and Education:
• High School diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience working in multi-person assignment (3-4 timekeepers at one time).
• At least 4-5 years of legal experience required
