Legal Assistant/Secretary
Downtown Law Firm seeking a Legal Assistant/Secretary. Some legal secretary experience is preferred, but not required. Candidates must be able to type around 65 wpm and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment. Proven advanced knowledge of Windows XP, Office 2003, Microsoft Word and Microsoft Outlook, as well as WordPerfect is expected. Excellent communication and client relations skill are required.
The successful candidate must:

Professionally respond to phone calls, e-mails and correspondence

Accurately type memos, correspondence and legal documents

Scheme and edit documents

Transcribe correspondence and pleadings

Compose routine correspondence

Ensure that all documents (letters, motions and pleadings) have been proofread, edited and revised as necessary
-
File and track pleadings with the court

Interact with couriers, court reporters, witnesses and other support personnel, including document management professionals

Monitor staff and attorney calendars
-
Update and index document, correspondence and pleading files
-
Coordinate travel arrangements and timekeeping
-
Delegate work to support resources when appropriate

Develop and maintain smooth working relationships with staff, attorneys and clients
The selected applicant will be able to handle work challenges and adjust to multiple demands, priorities and rapid change. Excellent written and verbal skills, attention to detail, good organizational skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality required. This position may require occasional overtime.
