ZAI is seeking a Library Computer Systems Administrator with hands-on experience administering an integrated library system, preferably SIRSI; working knowledge of the UNIX operating system; experience creating html files, at least 2 years hands-on experience creating javascript and unix shell scripts; ability to use Sharepoint; ability to use the OCLC bibliographic utility and online authority files; at least 2 years hands-on experience trouble-shooting computer hardware and networks; experience creating web accessible electronic interfaces for databases using advanced technologies. Must also be able to stay abreast of new library focused technologies and be able to recommend and support a new integrated library system. Candidate must possess the ability to manage new technologies such as RFID. Broad knowledge of library principles and procedures gained from a Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution and at least 2 years work experience in libraries is also required.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide system administration for the Library’s STILAS integrated library system, STILAS to include working with Information Systems Department staff to insure regular back-ups are maintained, running system administration utilities, creating and modifying reports, customization of the SIRSI interface, coordinating vendor support with system vendor and Information Systems Department. Diagnose and solve problems relating to on-line public access catalog, cataloging, circulation, serials control, acquisition, self-check interface, and hardware and work with library staff members to establish maximally efficient workflows. Responsible for annual inventory utilizing STILAS, coordinate STILAS software upgrades. Customize STILAS interface by performing in-house coding. Work with the vendor to support the library’s self checkout equipment.
WEB PAGE / ELECTRONIC INTERFACE MAINTENANCE
Maintain library electronic interfaces on both the public website and Intranet site. Update, compose, and create content in electronic format assuring accuracy and proper display. Perform coding to create html files. Perform coding to create and enhance the experience of the Library’s digital assets on the internet using standard internet technologies including html, xml, and CSS. Perform coding to customize library’s intranet presence using Sharepoint. Work with the library’s database service providers to customize the library’s interface. Create and maintain digital repositories. Manage a periodic library inventory utilizing STILAS. Compile and distribute a monthly report on the metrics / statistics for all of the library’s services.
TECHNICAL SUPPORT
Troubleshoot problems with staff computers and public-access workstations in library reading room. Test new media and library applications as necessary. Recommend, support, and customize an advanced integrated library system as needed. Coordinate with Library’s Information Systems Department and vendors to resolve difficulties that cannot be resolved in-house. This includes troubleshooting connection and performance issues with remote online databases. Tests, verifies, and report on library related technologies in monthly status reports.
END USER SUPPORT
Help library patrons in the use of the online catalog, features on the library website, self-check equipment, Web browsers and sites, and library equipment. Maintenance and creation of documentation related to all duties.
