About the Job

NATURE OF WORK

This is responsible administrative work assisting in the management and operational functions of both the Hollywood  and Brighton Reservations STOF Library system.

 

Work involves assisting the division director in the administration and supervision of the operations of the Library system, including the development of policy, supervision of professional personnel, planning and organization of services to the public and development of administrative procedures.  Assignments are received from the division director in the form of broad instructions or general program objectives.  Work is performed with considerable independent judgment within established guidelines.  Performance is reviewed periodically through conferences and written reports.

  • Assists CEAO  in developing and implementing divisional policies, procedures and programs.  Oversee grants and ensures compliance to maintain appropriate accreditation standards.   
  • Makes policy recommendations; develops program goals and objectives, and long range plans.
  • Plans, directs and supervises the activities of professional and administrative staff; coordinates divisional budgets, purchasing, personnel, and record keeping activities.
  • Reviews agenda reports, prepares correspondence and special project reports for the CEAO’s  review and/or signature.
  • Makes budgetary recommendations and assists in the preparation of the division budget.
  • Serves as library consultant to participating communities, library advisory boards, school officials and the STOF Tribal members with regard to library administration and activities. 
  • Plans Library development programs and initiates them in accordance with accepted policy.
  • Confers with STOF officials, contractors, vendors, Tribal leaders and the general public regarding divisional operations; addresses STOF public groups.
  • Attends professional meetings.
  • Performs related work as required.
  • Travel between STOF Reservations is required.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of the current principles, practices, and procedures of library science, development and administration.
  • Considerable knowledge of the applicable laws, regulations and procedures related to the Public Libraries system.
  • Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration.
  • Considerable knowledge of budget preparation and administration.
  • Ability to plan, direct and supervise division operations and activities.
  • Abilities to analyze facts and exercise sound judgment in decision making.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.
  • Ability to serve the STOF public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public, co-workers, STOF officials and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Master's Degree highly preferred in Library Science from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association; MLS Certified is required. Six (6) years progressively responsible experience in a large multi‑service library system including two (2) years experience in the supervisory and administrative aspects of the work; or any equivalent combination of relevant training and experience. Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills including English written and verbal communication skills.  Proficient computer skills utilizing Microsoft Software packages and add-ins.  Valid FL Drivers License; ability to work a flexible schedule including evening, weekends and holidays. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Typically, the incumbent may sit comfortably to do the work; work will involve some field work, and travel. There is occasional walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items, such as books, papers, etc.. May drive a company vehicle.
