Is based in Paducah, Kentucky and is a leading provider of inland-marine transportation services on the Mississippi River system, Gulf Intercoastal waterways, and off-shore tug markets. Our diverse customer base includes leading agribusinesses, freight companies, utilities, barge lines, and construction companies who are transporting dry cargo through barge transportation on the Mississippi River system, liquid or dry cargo in the gulf intercoastal waterways. Position: Vessel Captain or Pilot
Locations: Licensed to operate on Western Rivers Waterway, Intercoastal Waterway or Off-shore. Office locations in Louisiana and Kentucky.
Job Scope: Vessel Operator for one of Marquette’s three divisions: River (Inland River System), Gulf-Inland (Intercoastal Waterways) and Off-shore. This position would work anywhere from a 30/30; 30/15 to a 14/7 schedule depending on the division.
Principal Responsibilities: The vessel Captain or wheelhouse person is responsible for the general management of all processes aboard their vessel and must navigate the vessel in a safe and prudent manner. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
1. Complying with all applicable U.S. Coast Guard Inland Navigation Rules.
2. Planning and carrying out orders received from the Marquette Transportation dispatcher and reporting any variances or discrepancies in the planning and execution of orders to the dispatcher.
3. Follow all Operations processes ensuring that the necessary information and documentation is located in the wheelhouse of the vessel and maintained in an orderly manner.
4. Ensuring that the vessel and tow are suitable for the waterway to be transited and expected operating conditions.
5. Checking U.S. Coast Guard marine informational radio broadcasts regularly for relevant navigation information and/or navigation notices forwarded from office.
6. Direct the minor maintenance and scheduling and maintain the proper working order the vessel’s navigation equipment.
7. Using the judgment of a prudent mariner and stopping operations when unusual conditions dictate.
8. Responsible for the safety and security of the vessel and all those aboard.
9. Leadership and guidance of assigned crew members.
Qualifications:
· Licensed Mariner for the Division requested with all appropriate certificates.
· Strong communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills.
· Self start and ability to perform a variety of complicated tasks with moderate supervision.
· Demonstrated computer skills and proficiency in the use of Microsoft programs such as; Office, Outlook and or similar computer programs.
· Travel required.
