Our client is looking for several Part Time Occupational and/or Physical therapists to travel within the Bucks County, Montgomery County, Chester county and Philadelphia county (Center City) areas. The therapists will be conducting one-hour art class session within an assisted living and or skilled care facility. During that time, the therapist will incorporate some physical/occupational activity within the group.Groups are relatively small, accompanying 6-8 people at a time. Groups are sized as such to ensure that each individual is able to receive one on one attention from the therapist as well as be able to benefit from the social aspects of being in a group environment.
Each session is essentially a one hour art class where the instructor/therapist usually sets up a still-life in the front of the class or distributes pictures for each individual to work from, after a very brief explanation, students begin to work on their pieces. Usually classes are mostly painting, (watercolor, and acrylic) but often pastels and charcoal will be included, depending on the level of comfort of the students/residents within the group. Each therapist has the freedom to alter the curriculum of the art program according to the needs of the particular group they are working with. The groups will be consistent as well as the individuals within them, so the therapist will learn the needs of each individual and be able to familiarize themselves with all of the residents in each group. The therapist/instructor will provide weekly attendance and evaluation forms reporting on progress made with each individual. The population is predominantly residents that suffer from dementia, schizophrenia, psych-associative and cognitive disorders. In addition to the neurological circumstances of said residents, there are also physical conditions and disorders that go hand in hand with the neurological. Conditions are included and not limited to: arthritis, osteoporosis, joint pain, central pain syndrome, felt’s syndrome, as well as other conditions.
Required to have certification within the state of Pennsylvania to conduct occupational and or physical therapy services. The therapist will need to have a background clearance check.
Therapists should (ideally) reside or be comfortable traveling to the Philadelphia area. Most of the current and potential clients are in the Philadelphia area. More sites are being added so if you prefer more hours they will come in time.
The position is a creative one, the candidate must have a personality suited to accommodate the geriatric population in an assisted / skilled care environment, be very outgoing, and be able to think on their feet. Experience is preferred but is not an absolute must - our client is flexible and open to new graduates; as long as you are passionate about this and are very hands on & creative.
