Unix Systems Manager

About the Job

Cocc is currently seeking a Unix Systems Manager to provide management, leadership and daily supervision for the Linux/Unix Jr. System Administrators.  This position’s primary function is to manage and develop a team of skilled professionals who keep enterprise hardware and operating system platforms current by performing routine updates, security administration and completing all necessary diagnostics

 

Essential Functions

  • Oversee and coordinate the department’s day-to-day and user support activities, ensuring timely and accurate resolution of user problems and concerns with respect to core software components- targeting a 100% uptime
  • Oversee and coordinate the implementation of projects and work requests involving specialized IT software, as approved by management
  • Supervise personnel, which typically includes recommendations for hiring, firing, performance evaluation, training, work allocation and problem resolution
  • Consult with and collaborate as appropriate with users in the structuring and development of data requirements
  • Coordinate and monitor data security for the department; create and maintain audit logs and journals for daily critical tasks
  • Prepare and maintain departmental procedures manual
  • Manages AIX, Linux and Storage
  • Participate in the development of operating goals and objectives for the department; recommend, implement and administer methods and procedures to enhance operations
  • Maintain knowledge with respect to relevant state-of-the-art technology and systems
  • Install, configure and maintain Linux/Unix networks, custom applications, and peripherals
  • Ensure system stability, scalability, security and performance requirements

·         Implement and maintain security controls on all corporate systems

·         Assist with audit compliance mandates

  • Manage problem escalation and communicate with senior management as necessary
  • Provide guidance on process improvements, standardization efforts, technology deployment and strategic and tactical implementations
  • Ensure adherence to all IT and department policies, processes and procedures
  • Develop and maintain accurate documentation of processes, standards and baselines across enterprise environments generating status updates of assigned projects and problems
  • Analyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resources
  • Identify, research, evaluate an implement emerging Linux/Unix technologies
  • Identify ways to increase service quality while decreasing outages and MTTR
  • Develop and implement automation and management tools
  • Proactive monitoring of system performance (e.g. uptime, failover, anti-viral, etc.).
  • Coordinate with business units on initiatives and recommend new information systems

·         Perform research in order to evaluate LAN requirements and identify/resolve specific issues

·         Plans for and designs COCC’s infrastructure

 

Qualifications

·         Three years experience managing infrastructure design and operational excellence

·         Exceptional knowledge of service and application delivery, as well as successful SLA accomplishments

·         Hands-on experience in troubleshooting hardware

·         Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment

·         Experience interpreting the applicability of local/federal laws and regulations to company operations

Technical Skills

·         Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of expertise

·         Proficient in organizing resources and establishing priorities

·         Proficient in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, developing and implementing new strategies/procedures

·         Ability to supervise and train employees, including organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments

·          Ability to analyze complex problems, interpret operational needs, and develop integrated, creative solutions

·         Ability to develop and maintain record keeping systems and procedures.

·         Knowledge of the operational and procedural aspects of computer systems, hardware, software and peripheral equipment.

·         Knowledge of data security and disaster recovery systems and procedures

·         Ability to develop plans, and implement short- and long-range goals

·          Ability to prepare and write technical procedures and manuals

·         Ability to implement and troubleshoot programming changes and modifications

·         Proficient in installing, maintaining, modifying, and upgrading database software

·         Operate on a scheduled 24-hour on-call basis.
