Description
Installs, configures, and troubleshoots local area computer networks and associated assemblies by performing the following duties. Performs analysis of network needs and contributes to design of network architecture, integration, and installation. Installs and maintains local area network hardware and software, including servers, peripherals, network nodes, terminals, and wiring. Evaluates local area network hardware and software requirements and capabilities and makes recommendations. Coordinates installation of hardware and software by others. Provides support to and trains users in local area network administration and usage. Monitors and maintains network stability. Communicates and coordinates network schedule, backups, and downtime to users. Coordinates third-party maintenance for network hardware, software, and telecommunications services. Prepares and maintains documentation of network configurations and cabling layouts. Administers and maintains outer boundary appliances and hardware including VPN, Firewall, and Intrusion Protection System (IPS). Maintains access list and users rights for outer boundary systems and active directory. Reports directly to program manager and IAM with any intrusion attempts or alerts. Maintains Defense in Depth on all network nodes and subnets and network devices, by performing both physical and logical inspections of devices and network. Performs systems analysis, design, programming, documentation, or implementation of complex system applications and related IT/ADP systems concepts for effective implementation. To provide installation, integration, configuration, administration, and maintenance support for department information and network systems. Use available resources to design, code, implement, and maintain applications or electronic forms.
Implement, administer, and maintain system event log server (SysLog), utilizing automated alerts and events that will notify appropriate personnel when an event occurs. Must have excellent communications skills, and be able to coordinate multiple projects simultaneously. Must maintain professional interpersonal skills, demeanor, and appearance. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The ability to work both independently and as part of a team. The motivation to do excellent work and meet deadlines. Major Duties:
1) Provide technical leadership for Cisco™ Network Infrastructure engineering including security, LAN, WAN and WLAN.
2) Provide technical leadership for Cisco™ outer boundary, firewall, VPN, and IDS/IPS.
3) Development, configuration, and administration of Defense in Depth practices, inspections and policies.
4) Administer and support all network nodes, devices, and access to network.
5) Act as support to Network Security/ Information Assurance team.
6) Administer and maintain DIACAP standards for all network devices.
7) Administer all systems, applications, security updates and carefully document network and server changes.
8) Design, configure and troubleshoot network devices.
9) Troubleshoot network performance issues. Coordinate with manager and team on new tasks or existing issues.
10) Perform a variety of tasks including documentation and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
11) Develop plans and strategies to prevent issues from occurring.
Education
Bachelor’s Degree preferably in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Information Technology. A combination of education and experience will be considered in lue of education requirement.
Experience

Five (5) years in computer systems operations; three years in a networking infrastructure role. Thorough understanding of network infrastructure, computer operating systems, hardware, and software, and all phases of system analysis, techniques and applications programs. Ability to stay abreast of the rapidly changing information technology field/computer environment coupled with an ability to make sound recommendations and implement desired changes within operations. Ability to quickly gain knowledge and troubleshoot network issues so they can be resolved immediately meeting timelines required in priority. Solid knowledge of IT concepts, issues, practices, methodologies, and trends, particularly those relevant to Network design and administration: Network Operating Systems: Windows 2000/2003. TCP/IP, Monitoring (ports and application monitoring tools), Security (familiar with common techniques), Firewalls. Familiar with at least one security application.


Minimum of four (4) years leadership experience in IT projects, infrastructure design, administration, and security. Understanding and experience in use and standards of ITIL/MOF environment. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Proficient skills in problem solving root cause analysis and critical thinking. Ability to work independently to resolve critical issues in a timely manner with minimal disruptions to network and customers.
Predominantly set up, configure and support the outer boundary Network Equipment on the TCP/IP network. Administer all systems, applications, security updates and carefully document network and server changes. Configure and troubleshoot Cisco firewall, router, VPN, and switches; proxy, event log or syslog server, and intrusion detection and prevention systems. Troubleshoot network performance issues. Coordinate with manager and team on new tasks or existing issues. Support and resolve issues related to intrusion attempts, improper use of network resources, security issues, hardware, software and network. Perform a variety of tasks including documentation and improvement of Standard Operating Procedures.

Special Requirements/Certifications
Certifications required in Network+, Security+, SAII, CCNP, and CISSP (or associate) required within 120 days.Employee must obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
Physical Requirements

Canidate must be able to lift objects up to 50 pounds, stand for long periods of time, and work in front of a computer screen for extensive periods of time.
