About the Job

See the World with Us!

We know you are out there.  You are someone who prefers the flexibility of working for a small business rather than the rigidity of a big company.  You relish the thought of being able to make a huge impact on a company’s success and have fun in the process.  You cherish working where your creativity is valued and encouraged.  You are not routine oriented, but prefer a job where no two days are alike.  You also most importantly love people, and people love you.   If this describes you, then please consider us.

We are Cruise Holidays of Alexandria, an independently-owned franchise location of Cruise Holidays International, part of the largest and oldest cruise specialty travel consortium in the United States.  We are dedicated to providing the very highest standards of professionalism and service to our worldwide client base.  Our specialty is the premium and luxury travel market, with particular focus on the luxury cruise market.

We are looking for a very special person to join us, someone who will view themselves as part of our team with a shared sense of responsibility in the success of our business.  We anticipate that this position will be full-time, 40 hours per week, but will consider candidates who prefer a part-time schedule of no fewer than 32 hours per week.  The hours typically will be Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with one hour for lunch.  The successful candidate from time-to-time, however, may be asked to work on weekends or in the evenings to assist with special events.

In your role with us, you will be providing timely and professional travel advice to our sophisticated client base.  This begins with the initial contact with a client, but does not end there.  A key to success will be your ability to listen to the client's needs and desires, make a travel recommendation to the client that matches the client's needs and desires, process the client's booking, enter the booking into our data base, and ensure appropriate and timely follow-up with the client.  In addition, you will be involved in assisting with travel-related events that may include participating in trade shows and special cruise events.  You also will be involved with assisting with mailings and the development of marketing materials.

Our ideal candidate will possess the following attributes and skills:

  •     People-oriented, with an infectious personality;
  •     Ability to work well both independently and as part of a team;
  •     A can-do attitude, with a willingness to do a wide-range of tasks as assigned that may include (but not be limited to) answering the telephone, assisting with mailings, file keeping, data entry, and interacting with clients;
  •     Ability to maintain a regular work schedule, with the ability to sit for long periods of time;
  •     Command of the English language, with excellent oral and written communication skills;
  •     Ability and willingness to be creative and contribute ideas that will assist in growing Cruise Holidays' business and market share;
  •     Flexible, with ability to work some evenings and weekends when needed;
  •     Willingness to seek and develop new business;
  •     Working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word;
  •     Professional demeanor;
  •     Willingness and ability to lead groups on travel both domestically and abroad;
  •     Willingness and ability to respond timely to clients and meet deadlines.

In addition to the above attributes and skills, we also value the following (which are not essential, but are a plus):
  •     Previous sales experience, especially in travel;
  •     Previous travel experience, especially international and cruise travel.

Educational Requirements & Pay

High school diploma is required.  We prefer candidates who have earned a minimum of an Associates Degree.  All offers will be contingent on reference checks and a criminal background check. Also required is the ability to work in the United States without restriction.

Your pay will be negotiable, based on your level of experience and whether you currently have a client base.  We anticipate paying a combination hourly wage with generous bonus structure based on sales targets.   Starting hourly rate will range from $8 per hour to $12 per hour depending on experience plus bonus; after 2 years with bonus, a candidate can reasonably expect to earn from $40,000 to $75,000+ per year by meeting sales targets.  Additionally, from time-to-time you will enjoy free or discounted travel.
