BASIC FUNCTION

Applies Engineering fundamentals to practical problem solving involving the design, fabrication and manufacture of components, subassemblies and systems in all aspects of Faucet new product development. Expected to handle responsibilities and perform tasks for normal technical assignments of fairly broad scope and under only general direction of supervisory personnel. Candidate should be readily capable of applying engineering fundamentals to practical problem solving and should be developing skills in advanced product-related technology. Performance will often include original inventive solutions to problems. Project planning skills, as well as evaluation and critique, are important. Engineer will independently direct activity of one or more projects of moderate complexity or several smaller projects as well as impromptu assignments on an as needed basis.


SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES


Determines the technical feasibility of modifications to existing products and new product concepts.

Coordinates work with designers, technical writers, Engineering technicians.

Generates, accumulates, and disseminates technical data on products needed by internal and external customers.

Maintains state-of-the-art awareness of relevant product technologies.

Originates ideas for product and component features, modifications, and new products.

Receives general direction, but exercises discretion as to personal work details. Makes appropriate decisions using decision support tools and critical thinking. Willing and successful in taking moderate risk.

Establishes and maintains successful partnership with teammates / customers and has excellent communication skills in order to convey information, express opinions, and motivates others.

Capable of developing new products from concept through production.


MAJOR TASKS

Establish, update and maintain product specifications, including all meaningful details pertinent for product structural requirements, regulatory considerations, and marketing/sales considerations.

Maintain product design within such specification and coordinate development timetables.

Assure functional acceptability through testing and analysis.

Maintain styling parameters on production components and assemblies and prepare drawings and documentation needed to define or update the product design.

Assist in the preparation of product cost information for new and updated products.

Generation and maintenance of product design histories, manpower and development cost estimates, and test documentation.

Accumulate data from other engineering groups and outside technical consultants, technical publications and records, outside suppliers, customers, end users, related tradesmen, and public and private agencies, related to production capability, product design safety, product reliability, production cost and lead times, component availability, material selection, product codes, governmental regulation, installation parameters, usage requirements, patents.

Disseminate technical data to other engineering groups and functional areas as requested and needed for business decision-making.

Assist in department planning, budgeting, equipment maintenance, and operation procedures.

Capable of designing new products utilizing CAD for modeling and performing FEA analysis on CAD models.

Coordinates work with designers, tech writers, and engineering technicians.


RELATIONSHIPS AND CONTACTS

Supervisory Relationships: Reports to Sr. Staff Engineer.

Supervises drafters and technicians as assigned.

Organization Relationships:

Frequent contact with Quality Assurance to maintain/develop product and test specifications.

Frequent contact with R&D to coordinate new product, materials or process information.

Moderate contact with Marketing to incorporate desired features into product.

Frequent contact with Manufacturing to incorporate desired manufacturing processes into existing or new product designs.
