Machine Design Engineer

About the Job

UltraSource LLC, located in Kansas City, Missouri, is a leading manufacturer and distributor of food processing and packaging equipment.  We are currently looking to fill the position of a Machine Design Engineer. 

 

Summary: Performs machine design, project management, product documentation and product support activities of food processing/packaging equipment.  Conduct analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products by performing the following duties.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

·        Analyzes research data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal including product design, tooling design, die casting design, aluminum and plastics extruded parts design, injection molded plastic parts design, sheet metal fabrication and machined parts design and support of manufacturing.

 

·        Research product costs and participate in vendor selection to develop a bill of material for new products.

 

·        Confers with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.   Work in a team environment and translate customer requirements into successful products.

 

·        Draft and maintain product manuals, support documentation, technical bulletins, engineering notices, assembly instructions and installation procedures for field service technicians.  Also create assembly instructions and tooling design for production.

 

·        Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed assembly drawings and schematics for production and field service personnel.

 

·        Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype product or system including assembly and installation procedures.

 

·        Plans and develops experimental test programs.

 

·        Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

 

·        Confers with research and other engineering personnel and prepares design modifications as required.

 

·        Evaluate engineering test results for possible use in applications to develop or modify systems.

 

·        Uses computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks.

 

·        Observe all safety and security procedures for your area.  Use equipment and materials properly and report potentially unsafe conditions to management.  Your personal safety actions will be accountable in your performance review.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:                                                    

This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

 

Education and/or Experience:                                                    

·        Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Technology or Physics is preferred.

·        Three years related experience and/or training in the repair and maintenance of automotive, industrial or agricultural equipment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

·        Design experience in machined parts, sheet metal assemblies, and plastic parts both machined and molded is preferred. 

 

Computer Skills:                                                 

·        Proficiency or training on 3-D Mechanical Design software (Solidworks preferred)

·        Microsoft Office - Word, Excel, and Outlook. Experience with Access a plus.

 

Other Skills:

Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work with customers, sales and service personnel.

 

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
