Role Overview:  The Machinery Engineer provides proactive technical guidance to ensure the reliable operation of plant machinery, and assists in reactive technical troubleshooting of day-to-day operations in a highly advanced, multiple-unit integrated petrochemical manufacturing complex. The complex includes a major refinery as well as several large olefins, polyolefins, and plastics manufacturing, extrusion, and finishing operations. 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Determine the root cause of equipment failures and perform machinery performance evaluations
  • Analyze equipment trends and data in order to reduce life cycle costs
  • Provide direction to resolve field related problems involving rotating equipment
  • Technical support in project development, installation, and start-up
  • Technical support on all phases of machinery turnarounds
  • Apply reliability principles in obtaining optimum solutions on rotating equipment problems and new equipment selection
  • Develop and implement equipment asset plans using RCM and other reliability techniques
  • Provide technical support and participate in risk based analysis on machinery work lists


Background Requirements: 

  • BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Machinery engineering experience in petroleum refining, petrochemical, or polyolefins operations  
  • Knowledgeable in large centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, API/ANSI pumps, steam or gas turbines, large gearboxes, and other rotating equipment
  • Experienced in machinery vibration analysis
  • Ability to perform root cause failure and analysis
  • Familiarity with industry standards such as API, AGMA, and NEMA
