Sandvik Tooling, a Sandvik AB subsidiary, recognized the value of Diamond Innovations and purchased the Ohio-based company in March 2007. Sandvik Tooling is based in Sweden and is a global industrial group with advanced products in selected areas – tools for metal cutting, machinery and tools for rock excavation, stainless materials, special alloys, metallic and ceramic resistance materials as well as process systems and sorting systems.
We are currently growing our Research Technology Center and in need of a Machining Test Engineer. Details of the position are as follows:
RESPONSIBILITIES & ACTIVITIES INCLUDE :
Responsible for developing/writing and implementing CNC machine programs for CNC lathes, mills and machining centers to cover support new product development, application development and end user support activities. Support all aspects of performance testing including :
- Develop/write and implement new CNC programs and setup procedures and setup procedures for Lathes, Mills and Machining Centers with data taken form from technical drawings.
- Conduct machining tests to support performance testing of new products, and conduct customer/end-user specific machinability studies.
- Create CAD drawings from prints, and translate the CAD models to CNC programs for Lathes, Mills and Machining Centers
- Work with end-users to develop new machine programs, and setups to produce customer or end-user specific parts per specifications outlined in drawings
- Planning the most efficient order of machine operations for each job and selecting right appropriate tools for each stage
- Design and manufacture fixtures to facilitate performance and application testing
- Conduct analysis of used cutting tools using the Scanning Electron Microscope and other tool wear characterization techniques. Document findings in the form of technical memos and reports
- Generate and document new setup and testing procedures.
- Support tool fabrication and customer part requests through develop programming and operating wire EDMs
- Work closely with engineers, customers, /end-user representatives and technicians
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associates Degree in Sciences with 5+ years of hands-on experience in machine setup and CNC programming of lathes, milling machines and machining centers.
- Certified Machinist is a plus.
- Proven knowledge of machines (lathes, mills and machining centers), controls, and tool holding systems
- Demonstrated ability to generate CAD models of parts, and part tolerancing.
- Experience in 4- and 5- axis CNC programming experience highly desired
- Proven track record of working independently to develop CNC programs and executing it them to produce parts to specifications
- Basic mathematical skills with complete accurate mathematical calculations required for part/fixture design by use of using basic math, geometry and trigonometry
- Experience with wire EDM programming and operation highly desirable
