Position Purpose/Objective:
Assist leadership in maintaining productivity, efficiency, and scheduled delivery dates. Relay pertinent work details to subsequent shift and assist leadership in assigning, scheduling, prioritizing, and forecasting workload/manpower requirements relating to machining. Communicate effectively with other maintenance personnel at all levels by keeping co-workers and leadership apprised of work progress and problems or difficulties as they arise. Sets up and operates conventional, special purpose, and numerical control (NC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic parts by performing the following duties.
Essential Responsibilities:
* Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings manuals specifications or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations and setup requirements.
* Trains, mentors, develops and coaches other machinists.
* Calculates and sets controls to regulate specified machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
* Starts and observes machine operations to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or media as required.
* Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly. Verifies dimension and alignment of assembly.
* Inspects own parts using their Statistical Process Control (SPC) inspection system. Confers with Lead person or machine shop Superintendent. Zero Accidents Comply with all Goodrich Corporation EHS standards including personal protective equipment use, housekeeping standards, and EHS training requirements.
* Dispose of wastes in proper receptacles; if unsure contact EHS Coordinator or Superintendent for direction. Attend all scheduled EHS training sessions. Take steps to identify and properly deal with hazards or other EHS issues. Use appropriate equipment and tools to perform job functions safely.
* Must have exposure to or the desire to be trained in CNC programming
* Demonstrate awareness and understanding of the EHS policy and management system, the importance of conforming to EHS policies and procedures, and consequences of failing to comply with EHS policies and procedures. Demonstrate knowledge of EHS risks and impacts of work activities and the benefits of improving EHS performance. Acquire necessary EHS competencies in accordance with EH&S-MS002, EHS Competencies & Training policy/procedure.
Education Required:
* High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.
A.S. Degree in machine technology is preferred. CNC programming classes is a plus.
Experience Required:
* Seven (7) years minimum experience required on conventional lathes, mills, grinders and CNC lathes and mills.
Skills Required:
* Ability to speak, read and write English required.
* Good math skills required. College classes in Algebra, Geometry and Trigonometry are a plus.
