GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Maintenance Associate II is responsible for complete work order requests to build and repair equipment as quickly and accurately as possible while keeping associated costs to a minimum; and preventive maintenance assignments maintaining all equipment in good operating condition to meet the Plant’s goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Completes electrical projects; design and installs.
  • Troubleshoot electrical problems and correct as required.  Must be capable of reading electrical skematics.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical devices in operation. Dismantles and examines devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Adjusts functional parts of devices and control instruments, repairs or replaces defective parts. 
  • Sets up and operates shop machinery such as drill press, grinders, band saws, cutting torch, welder. etc. Uses hand tools and pneumatic tools to modify or repair parts and equipment.
  • Installs new or repairs/modify hydraulic and pneumatic equipment as needed.
  • Operates the cooling water system.
  • Researches supplies, parts and machines needed to complete work orders.
  • Orders part on the company computer system.
  • Assists in organizing and maintaining an accurate inventory of parts.
  • Performs and documents work orders and preventative maintenance tasks as assigned.
  • Maintains and keeps track of workload and assignments. Completes and maintains all required paperwork, records, maintenance logs, documents, manuals, drawings etc.
  • Supports the vision, mission and guiding principles of the company.
  • Follows applicable Safety, Health and Environmental rules and guidelines while performing any procedure.
  • Maintains departmental housekeeping standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires an Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in electrical or electronics related field; plus one to three years experience in maintenance, construction, or in a related field; or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent. Must have mechanical aptitude.
  • Requires the ability to operate a wide variety of tools such as hand tools, power tools, drill press, band saw, welder, cutting torch, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of industrial electrical, including advanced electrical (up to three phase 460 volt) design, sizing of components and installations, etc.
  • Must have knowledge of mechanical systems including gear boxes, motes, air compressors, pumps, AC, DC, drive troubleshooting, etc.
  • Must be able to read/comprehend written and oral instructions in English; read and comprehend safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals and product recipes/material identifications.
  • Must have mathematical skill to add, subtract, multiply and divide and the ability to perform these operations using units of weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English one-on-one and in small group situations.
  • Must have ability to reason and address problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Must have manual dexterity sufficient to operate a wide variety of small hand tools, scales, spatula, barrel cart, hand trucks, fork lift, utility knife, and mixer/blender machinery and computer equipment.
  • 3 years of prior experience in maintenance, construction, or in a related field; or a combination of education and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Experience should include the following:
    • Machine controls and instrumentation
    • Welding/brazing
    • Hydraulics
    • Plumbing
    • Pneumatics
    • Carpentry

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENT:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; talk and/or hear.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 55 pounds and occasionally handle up to 250 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Requires the use of safety equipment as dictated by the work area such as safety glasses and shoes, dust mask, hard hat, respirator, face shield, hearing protection, chemical suit, gloves, aprons, etc..
  • Work is inside and the typical noise level is loud.
  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles.  The employee is frequently exposed to vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.
