Olin Chlor Alkali Products has an opening for a Maintenance Instrument Technician at the McIntosh, Alabama location.
This role is a technical expert in the area of instrumentation in units of a specialty chemical plant producing chlor-alkali. Installs, maintains, troubleshoots and upgrades process control equipment from the field instruments to the control system.
The Instrument Technician troubleshoots equipment instrumentation and control systems. Instrument Technicians may receive very little descriptive information concerning the production problem. Calibrates, installs and maintains a variety of instruments used to measure temperature, level, pressure and flow. Installs and maintains electrical and pneumatic systems. Monitors specific equipment (CEMS, pH, Conductivity). May monitor and replace pressure relief valves and rupture discs. Monitors plant areas for the presence of combustibles. Maintains and troubleshoots low voltage sensors including proximity switches and photo eyes.
May have a very short window of opportunity to complete a lot of work. Troubleshooting work is often of a highly complicated, high demand, high time pressure nature (something goes wrong on the off shift, no one knows or can identify the root cause of the failure, people want it fixed quickly and accurately). The nature of the work is becoming more complex. This requires greater knowledge, skill and ability levels (particularly in the area of process automation system troubleshooting). Must be a self starter and work with minimal supervision.
Job activities involve working near heavy equipment, hazardous materials, at heights, in extreme temperatures, confined areas, moving machinery and near high voltage electricity and nuclear detection device. Improper actions or mistakes could result in serious injury or lethal accidents.
Errors in work could result in loss of quality, productivity and customer satisfaction. Errors in judgment could result in serious damage to machines, equipment or product costing hundreds of thousands of dollars. Violation of environmental regulations could result in fines or penalties.
