Position Summary:
As Maintenance Manager, this employee will support the Operations Manager, developing, coordinating, and implementing all functional and operations activities in plant maintenance and parts room which includes troubleshooting, and repairs. This employee will be responsible for the ongoing performance of the pre-start, preventative and predictive maintenance programs as they evolve within the Sara Lee Foods U. S. - Florence, Alabama Facility relating to equipment, machinery systems, building and grounds.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and implement effective policies and procedures for the maintenance department to insure all equipment, machinery, systems, utilities and facility buildings and grounds are in an up and running state of repair at all times.
- Monitor the work of staff maintenance associates including electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, steam, air, machinery, plumbing, facility buildings and grounds. Also ensures the reporting of, and documentation for, historical data input into the pre-start, preventative and predictive maintenance programs.
- Ensure the supervision of, and expedites emergency of repairs to minimize costly downtime and maintain production process flow schedules consistently.
- Ensure the review and sign off all maintenance projects to be in compliance with standards as specified by Sara Lee Foods U. S. - Supply Chain, OSHA, USDA, and/or FDA as to safety and quality issues.
- Review and approve mechanical specifications and operational manuals to insure they are up to date and applicable to all Sara Lee Foods U. S. - Supply Chain assets to include equipment, machinery, electrical, refrigeration, steam, air, and wastewater systems and facilities buildings and grounds.
- Work with project engineers to accomplish plant capital goals.
- Work with outside regulating agency inspectors for correcting any aspects of maintenance that are cited by both or either of outside agencies or internal Sara Lee Foods - U. S. Supply Chain policies and procedures.
- Personally respond to any and all safety and security calls and/or requirements.
- Train maintenance staff and associates through personal technical knowledge and/or expertise to resolve problems of repetitive nature pertaining to equipment, machinery, systems, buildings and grounds.
- Research, plan, and prepare proposals for equipment and machinery modifications that will reduce downtime, allow for more efficient utilization and still maintain standards for safety and quality.
- Work with General Manager in reviewing, developing, and implementing innovative changes, actions, and decisions that will reduce cost, save time and/or provide a safer work environment for all plant associates.
- Approve all requisitions relating to new and replacement parts, supplies, equipment and/or machinery for the maintenance department. Manages the costs of such parts, tools, and repairs in accordance with plant AOP.
- Coordinate with Capital Projects Engineer on construction and mechanical projects.
- Attend applicable seminars, etc. to maintain or exceed present professional development and promote same for department staff and subordinate associates.
- Maintain all records, documents, and blueprints for USDA compliance for efficient and effective decision making situations that encompass all Sara Lee Foods U. S. - Supply Chain assets at the plant facility.
- Works with Safety Manager in coordinating the implementation of all facility Process Safety Management Programs.
- Champion TPM (Total Productive Maintenance) initiatives that drive favorable equipment performance using lean tools.
- Must adhere to good safety practices, food safety policies, general company rules, regulations, and policies.
- May be required to perform various other tasks associated with the position as assigned by Operations Manager.
- Strong verbal, written, analytical, and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management in a professional manner.
- Must demonstrate good judgment and critical decision making skills.
- Employee must be a part of the operations team and strive for the success of the total plant/company operation.
- Minimum of 5 years maintenance management experience.
- Experience and background involving: steam, refrigeration, compressed gases, electrical (raw power), electronics, building construction, packaging and cooking equipment maintenance and design.
- Direct experience with pre-start, preventative and/or predictive maintenance programs.

- Bachelor's Degree - Engineering: Maintenance, Mechanical, Electrical, or Agriculture
