JOB DESCRIPTION
Maintenance Mechanic 2 (1890)
Description
New incumbent is responsible for maintaining and repairing equipment in a large format high speed heat set web printing shop. Must have the necessary mechanical and electrical trouble shooting skills to keep the GOSS C-700, Heidelberg M3000 and Harris NC400 presses in running condition. The successful candidate must have sufficient experience and knowledge to practice good preventive, trouble shooting and repair skills to contribute to the correct maintenance of large scale printing presses, and other related equipment. Incumbent will work with department manager on best methods to repair machines for improvement, efficiency, quality and safety, must be available and on-call when needed for a major breakdown or when a plant emergency issue arises. The position is responsible for support and implementation of consistent training and direction of the team. This position includes a hands-on understanding of mechanical and electrical work with web-fed presses in an insert printing environment. This position performs these duties through their own effort and skill, with limited direct supervision. Incumbent may also be assigned other tasks from time to time. Performs mechanical inspections, repairs, and pre-post maintenance on all machinery and equipment. Incumbent needs to have an understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, print/preliminary equipment, and machine shop tools. Incumbent will, along with others on the team, oversee the daily preventative maintenance and repairs along with assisting when needed on major breakdowns in a 7 day/24 hour operation. Other duties include maintaining all auxiliary equipment including RIMA and Gammeler stackers, Trane and Carrier chilling equipment, Ingersoll Rand air compressors, Pollution control equipment and a myriad of other equipment. Responsibilities will include: Diagnose all associated print equipment malfunctions, trouble shoots and determines the need for adjustment or repair. Dismantles machine and equipment to examine parts for defect or to remove defective part. Replaces defective or worn parts with new parts, repairs and/or reproduces parts, as needed. Assembles and test operates machine to verify correction of malfunction. Maintains and lubricates machine tools and equipment. Repair, any plant and/or operational equipment along with maintaining physical structure of building and equipment.Maintains and repair buildings' plumbing, HVAC, air compressors, boilers, fire systems and electrical systems, including replacing worn or defective parts such as switches and fuses.Adheres to and promotes all safety policies and procedures including, but not limited to the proper handling of hazardous waste, lock out - tag out rules and hearing and eye protection policies.Performs other related duties and participates in special projects as assigned.Will develop and update SOPs and related support documentation for repairs, maintenance, reproduces, and/or replacing parts for equipment, machines and internal related systems worked on.
Required Skills
Qualifications & Requirements: •Must be able to work closely with pressmen to diagnose and repair press problems •Must understand the workings of web presses and the interface between the mechanical and the electrical operation •Must exhibit leadership skills (able to plan ahead and direct other workers) •Must be able to remove and replace all printing cylinders and all related hardware(making sure all are returned to proper setting) •Must be able to troubleshoot, repair all dryers electrical components •Must be able to perform all electrical checks and set up on in feed controls •Must know the mechanical, electrical interface functions of all printing sequences •Must be able to troubleshoot, repair, and setup all register systems •Must have strong organization skills, be able to exercise sound judgement, have initiative, and the ability to work independently •The ability to comprehend and implement basic understanding of company policies and procedures regarding quality, and production standards • Adhere to all safety rules requiring the crew to do likewise. • Able to communicate and to respond to communication in a manufacturing environment, from various sources |
