Maintenance Mechanic II


Schwans's Global Supply Chain. Inc., a growing Minnesota-based national dessert company located near downtown Atlanta, is seeking a Maintenance Mechanic II.


 


This position is responsible for journey level and/or skilled trade maintenance activities for facility and equipment in a generalist capacity to include preventative maintenance, major and minor repairs, and other skilled-level duties such as welding, fabricating or plumbing, etc. as needed for the function of position within plant.


 


 


 


 

























DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Perform journey level and/or skilled trade activities to ensure mechanical and/or structural integrity of equipment and facilities is maintained as one of the following: production/packaging equipment mechanic, plumber, welder, machinist, fabricator or drafter.
Perform setup and tear down of equipment, preventative maintenance. Complete major repairs and/or construction required to plant buildings and stationary equipment, fabricate parts and install new plant equipment. Repair, assemble, and/or install specialty area components to maintain or update facility infrastructure according to trade standards. Procure needed materials for repair and installation of components in a timely manner.
Read and interpret schematic drawings and diagrams required to perform maintenance on equipment. Operate a variety of power hand and shop tools as required. Understand testing equipment such as component testers, oscilloscopes, multi-meter, etc. to help diagnose electrical, mechanical, programmable controllers, refrigeration, computers, plumbing and similar problems.
Recommend changes in procedure and improvements for maintenance, repair and installation of components.
Provide guidance, advice and training Maintenance 1 and 2 positions in their specialty area to ensure compliance with trade and company standards, policies and procedures. Participate in and successfully complete training directed at increasing job-related trade skills as mandated by management/supervisor.
Ensure all areas are returned to a clean, neat, orderly and safe condition according to policy and procedure.
Maintain a close working relationship with all departments ensuring that equipment is repaired as quickly as possible to retain a smooth flow of production.
Must be able to operate all equipment and perform duties in compliance with Federal and State regulations.
Performs other work, as assigned.













QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Two-year degree in specialized trade or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Years of Related Experience: 3-5 year maintenance experience and/or training.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform all Maintenance Mechanic 1 and 2 duties. Knowledge of PLC software and ability to perform minor PLC program adjustments on equipment. Ability to read electrical schematics, diagnose problems with programmable controllers on equipment, and operate electrical testing equipment and machining equipment. Basic knowledge of ammonia refrigeration systems. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to complete work orders, carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form, and complete required paperwork. Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals and calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Mechanical knowledge and ability to expand knowledge and skills via on-the-job and formal training directed at increasing job-related skills as mandated by management/Supervisor, including all required OSHA training. Ability to learn basic computer skills, including SAP Maintenance Module. Ability to obtain a valid forklift license. Good problem solving skills. Demonstrated interpersonal skills sufficient to communicate in a professional manner with co-workers and supervisors. Ability to comply with all general safety policies and procedures in accordance with Company, Local, State and Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules and regulations.
