Managed NAND Product Engineer

About the Job

As a Product Engineer in the Memory Products Group, you will work in the Mobile Division on Managed NAND products.  While at Micron, you will evaluate and debug managed NAND products featuring a controller combined with Micron’s NAND flash die.  You will work closely with the Controller Vendors, Firmware Teams, NAND Product Engineering, the Systems Compatibility Group, Planning Teams, Test Engineering, and QRA Engineering to develop and debug products, identify and address yield issues, and validate firmware and controller behavior.

In this position, you will be involved in debug of the MMC, uSD, and Managed NAND devices at the device and system level and gain knowledge regarding controller behavior, NAND operation, and protocol of card storage including SD and MMC.  Your duties will include characterization of Micron’s MMC, uSD, and Managed NAND components using tester equipment, logic analyzers, oscilloscope, PC testers, etc.  You will assist with design and procurement of Nextest test fixtures and PCB adaptor card hardware as well as sockets for new e-MMC and All-in-One configurations.  You will analyze yields of backend production testing and create reports, scripts, and presentations of yield of various part types to understand failure paretos based on package type, NAND type, and firmware.  You will create and maintain various technical documents to assist with supporting, training, and educating various groups at Micron on Managed NAND.  You will be responsible for reviewing schematics, substrate layout, and bonding diagrams of product by utilizing several layout and schematic capture tools.  You will also provide a key interface between the Planning, Manufacturing, and Engineering areas. The work you perform will enable feedback to the Controller Vendor, Firmware Teams, NAND Product Group, Test, and Assembly regarding how they can improve their aspect of the manufacturing process.  Your other responsibilities will include assisting with the evaluation of electrical and physical failures found during customer, system level, production, or reliability testing. You may also modify and develop programs for the various evaluation testers that are utilized in this group.

Qualifications:

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • The ability to clearly communicate and document findings
  • An understanding of SD or MMC controller protocol and architecture - including datasheet specs, timings, etc. (preferred)
  • A basic background in NAND flash operation, including data sheet specs/timings, etc.
  • Experience with controller debug and testing - including experience with controller/NAND system/testing issues
  • Some programming experience, preferably on a tester such as Nextest, Advantest, etc.

Education:

BS or equivalent in Electrical or Electronics Engineering is required.
