The Business Development and Licensing Finance Manager as the lead financial representative supporting the Business Development Team and manages all financial aspects of BD&L products from pre-negotiation through commercialization of the project. The Core responsibilities of the role include the following:
Financial Responsibilities -
Maintain financial responsibility for the Business Development organization and serve as a key finance resource through the lifecycle of all BD&L sourced assets:
o Deal Negotiation Process
* Act as the key finance lead to support the negotiation process and have an intimate knowledge of all current opportunities up for consideration
* Understand, verify and communicate to Finance MGT all key assumptions that are utilized for business case (ie: Forecast, COGS, R&D spend estimates, legal estimates)
* Complete all financial analysis that supports opportunities including but not limited to (P&L construction, NPV, ENPV, IRR)
* Understand and identify key drivers of Risk associated with the deal and appropriately reflect risks in financial analysis (ie: development, regulatory, commercial / legal). Learn and utilize Crystal Ball / Monte Carlo risk assessment tools.
* Research and verify deal accounting treatment (ie: book & tax) and ensure financial analysis captures treatment correctly
* Participate and read all contacts and ensure financials align with current proposed contact language
* Takes a leadership role / Co-own with the business the CAR (ie: Executive MGT deck and required documents) development ensuring that all components of the business case align with the financials and the proposed contact language
o Post Deal Signing Responsibilities
* Perform / oversee final deal financial analysis once contact is signed
* Actively tack and maintain records that support both forecast and actual payments and ensure invoice payment is substantiated with proper contract language / MGT agreement
* Performs Ad Hoc post deal analysis and offer critical insights as to possible financial issues including:
* Actual vs. proposed spend per the contact terms
* Impairment of Milestone test
* Liaisons with FRA Finance to maintain all contact and other deal documents including, amendments, MGT decks and actual invoices
? Actively participates in internal deal discussions and provides critical insights to finance MGT on opportunities, value proposition and ongoing strategic fit in the portfolio
o General Financial Responsibilities
* Forecasts -
* Oversee and provide timely, accurate and well planned (ie: phased) financial forecasts that enable management to effectively track and understand the spend for both new and on-going deal opportunities
* Ensure all financial information is accurately represented in mgt communications and systems
* Monthly Close Support -
* Provide / oversee financial analysis and value added information / commentary that enables management to best understand variances from forecasts and LE.
* Works with FRA to support any accrual analysis as needed
* Verify that financials are appropriately stated and develop commentary for both Local and Consolidated results
* Act as the key financial contact for all Ad Hoc requests / analyses and offer critical insights to Finance and MGT for rationale
* Support the cross functional / department initiatives (ie: handoff of information for product costing development, internal benchmarking with R&D analysts on costs, etc... )
Business Partnering Responsibilities - A fundamental component of the role is actively foster and maintain strong inter-partner relationships with key customer groups including the BD&L, Portfolio MGT and Finance (ie: both BP&A MGT and FRA). Some of the key responsibilities that are required include:
* Actively support and develop key relationships with business partners and be viewed as a value added parter to supporting the initiatives tasked by the organization
* Develop a core understanding of the BD&L function and share critical insights, knowledge of business and processes employed by BD&L group with Finance peers
* Liaise with other finance professionals (ie: FRA and BPA peers) in providing critical insights to supporting both the forecast & close activities. Examples include:
* Educate peers on business activities that drive the results and the variances generated from forecasts
* Foster open communications and ensure transparency on all budgetary estimates
* Educate / remind business partners on key financial concepts in addition to their fiduciary role within the corporation
Leadership Role:
* As a Finance Manager the individual will be expected to support key strategic decisions for the business and liaise with both internal Sr. Management / Partner Sr. Management.
* Develop a core understanding and take to the next level key financial valuation measuremetns and business metrics used to critically assess deal opportunities and share critical insights, knowledge of business and processes employed by BD&L group with Finance peers.
* The BD&L Manager will be expected to provide coaching and guidance to the other junior analysts.
Key Learning Objectives:
* Gain a core understanding of the BD&L function with the Sandoz business including how a generic business operates, the value proposition offered in external collaborations and the financial impacts of all deals.
* Learn how to organize and manage critical business functions across multiple sites.
* Possible opportunity to develop supervisory skills including G&O setting, preparing and delivering performance feedback and providing mentoring and coaching. In addition, overseeing work without being intimately involved in the details.Education/Experience:
Bachelors Degree in Finance or Accounting; Masters Degree preferred.
10 years of relevant business experience.
