About the Job

At the direction of the Director of Benefits, within an HR service center model, this position will manage the team of Benefits Representatives, Benefits Specialists, and other designated employees responsible for administering all health & welfare and retirement benefit programs. You will ensure these programs are administered accurately, equitably, and in compliance with regulatory requirements and make sure the team responds to employee inquiries consistently, accurately, and in keeping with target service level metrics. 

 

Responsibilities will also include the building and management of Benefit Operations as a service center role model for a possible future HR Service Center that would provide administrative support for all HR programs. Efficiently manage the day-to-day operation of health & welfare and retirement benefit programs for all employee categories, including determination and maintenance of eligibility, records and data management, administration and authorization of participant transactions, provision of annual funding or restriction notices, response to document requests, and manage insurance carrier/payer interface. You will also periodically examine established processes and procedures to identify and implement changes that improve effectiveness and efficiency.  In support of major Benefit program changes or enhancements, explicitly define new processes and train and test team to ensure smooth implementation of new procedures.

 

In this role you will also provide evidence-based input to health & welfare and retirement subject matter experts, including employee feedback, related to the administration of benefit programs that can be used in proposing and evaluating changes in program design. Provide specific guidance and direction to team members to ensure work focus and technical understanding are correct and sufficient so that work is delivered on time, on budget, and at target service level standards. Ensure the team engages in continuous learning and process improvement. Trouble-shoot where administrative or customer response services are lagging and work with Director of Benefits to address service delivery issues. Keep abreast of legislative and regulatory developments, in partnership with the health & welfare and retirement subject matter experts, to ensure continuous program compliance in the day-to-day administration of health & welfare and retirement benefits.

 

A Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of five years of directly related experience, including progressively responsible experience in HR and benefits administration is required. Experience and the demonstrated ability to manage the administration of comprehensive retirement and health & welfare benefit programs within a full-service HR service center environment is essential. Must have a strong customer service orientation and possess the ability to manage a team that operates under time pressure, pursue multiple goals, and facilitate change in response to a dynamic environment.
