SUMMARY OF POSITION
Domestic Television Distribution seeks a Manager, Business Affairs for the DTVD Cable Business & Legal Affairs department. The position oversees the administration compliance and execution of acquisition contracts, license agreements and various other agreements and responsibilities as assigned.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Gathers network license terms from sales executives and drafts deal summaries of each agreement for dissemination to WBDTD executives and other WB business units. Assists in drafting pay/cable/free network license agreements, amendments to network license agreements, side letters, reliance letters, notice/option letters and other legal correspondence. Assists in drafting distribution agreements as well as the acquisition, renewal and confirmation of WB’s rights in various programming. Communicates with network clients regarding option dates, term start dates, advertising restrictions, errors and omissions insurance, and other contractual obligations or restrictions. Provides support and back-up for Vice President and Director in all areas of Business Affairs. Oversees the administration of basic cable, pay cable, and broadcast network license agreements and distribution agreements. Assigns and reviews work prepared by department assistant and summer legal interns. Maintains and updates various reports for Business Affairs. Supervises the maintenance of legal file folders and documents stored in electronic document management system (PC Docs). Researches legal files and other sources of information in order to evaluate rights/obligations and resolve contractual issues. Coordinates with WBDTD finance regarding client accounts, license fees and payment matters. Oversees record and file management for the department. Provides instruction and guidance to coordinators, legal interns, or the department assistant as needed.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
BA/BS degree in related field required. Proficiency with MS Word, MS Access, Excel and Outlook. Experience redlining legal documents and using DeltaView comparison. Working knowledge of Hummingbird/PC Docs. Proficiency in computerized legal research (Lexis/Nexis, Westlaw, internet databases). Knowledge of copyright/public domain issues. Knowledge of chain of title issues for renewals/sequels/remakes. Knowledge of music publishing/licensing for television. Ability to draft contracts/amendments/formal letters. Ability to understand contractual language. Must have strict attention for detail. Minimum 5 years experience performing the essential duties of this position required. Entertainment industry experience preferred. Paralegal Certificate through an accredited institution required. Additional coursework in the legal arena preferred. Ability to pay close attention to detail and understand written and oral instructions. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work well under deadline and in a fast paced environment. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Ability to work well as a part of a team.
