Job Description
 
Gap Inc. Logistics has dramatically improved DC productivity over the past several years in large part due to the application of Industrial Engineering discipline to process design and work measurement.  As a company, we see an opportunity to further leverage these concepts and capabilities in the back of house operations across our store fleets.
 
In this highly visible role, the Manager of Store Engineering will be responsible for developing a new capability around driving process and productivity improvements across Gap's 3,100 global stores.  The Store Engineering Manager will be responsible for complex analysis and project management as both an individual contributor and indirect leader of resources across Engineering, Strategy, and Brand Store Operations.  This position will require a passion for process excellence, a drive for results, and the ability to partner cross-functionally across all levels of the organization.
 
Store Engineering
  • Identify opportunities and lead implementation of solutions to improve productivities and efficiencies across the entire global store fleet (US, Canada, Europe, Asia)
  • Design and implement work measurement processes and store productivity standards around Shipment Processing, Markdowns, Cash Wrap, etc.
  • Provide expertise and insights to improve back of house design
  • Deliver project management excellence to meet scheduled deliverables  
Strategy
  • Drive and support the development of short and long term strategic plans as it relates to the Logistics network
  • Identify optimal trade-off's between store labor, inventory availability and supply chain costs
  • Identify supply chain productivity and process improvement opportunities, and recommend solutions based on industry knowledge and prior network analysis (e.g. cost savings, service constraints, inventory management, etc.)
Leadership
  • Manage strong cross-functional relationships among senior level store operations, Logistics, and engineering teams
  • Effectively manage key stakeholders across Store Operations and Logistics to drive change and results
 
 
Qualifications
 
Skills/ Capabilities
  • Strong process expertise in the development of standard operating procedures, productivity improvements, best practices, and industry benchmarks
  • Deep knowledge of retail store operations is a plus
  • Strong functional/technical understanding of engineering standards (MOST certified)
  • Systems savvy, can identify and design technology solutions
  • Experience with facility and/or store layout design and their impact on process efficiencies
  • Ability to drive change through metrics and analysis
  • Creative/ Strategic thinking and the ability to solve complex problems with practical solutions
  • Ability to lead resources through analysis and cross-functional project management
  • Track record of driving successful change in complex organizations
  • Strong writing and presentation skills with the ability to clearly communicate and influence cross-functionally at all levels
  • Ability to bring structure and drive action in a dynamic environment
  • Will require up to 50% travel
Experience
  • Minimum 7 years of industrial engineering and/or deep process improvement and analysis in retail store operations
  • Bachelors degree in Industrial Engineering
  • Advanced degree or MBA preferred
