He/she will also be responsible for the career development of group members, performance assessments, the development of facilities plans, facilitation of interdepartmental dialogue, and the general overseeing of the day-to-day operations of the group.

Minimum of a BS in Mechanical Engineering with 10 to 15 years applicable work experience is required.  MS or PhD in mechanical engineering with task and/or line management experience is preferred.

Very strong verbal and written communication skills are essential along with a demonstrated ability to lead and work with multidisciplinary teams.  The candidate must be well versed in mechanical design and analysis and have a thorough understanding of their application to the development of technically challenging mechanical systems. Experience developing R&D proposals involving future-enabling mechanical technologies is desired.

Track record of innovative contributions spanning multiple industry segments is particularly sought.  Experience working directly with sponsors such as the DOD, NASA, and DARPA is a plus.
