Manager, Product Management

About the Job

This position is at Commerce Insurance Company, a MAPFRE Company, location is Webster, MA

Manages state products and rates to ensure the state is meeting its financial plan.  Analyzes state results and develops reports and metrics to track progress toward the financial plan.  Supervises Senior Product Analyst, Product Analyst and Assistant Product Analyst positions, planning, directing and monitoring their activities to assure the timely and accurate completion of projects.  Strategically plans/schedules rate reviews and major projects.  Oversees and participates on major projects as determined by Manager.  Coordinates product Department activities with Underwriting, Marketing, Application Services in addition to other departments. Identifies, analyzes and implements necessary department procedures to ensure efficiency in the product development process. Provides technical support and assistance in regard to major projects.  Determines and implements salary administration changes.  Oversees department training and development. 

 

Education:  Bachelor's Degree or professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience preferred.

Experience:  7 - 9 years or Associates Degree equivalent plus 9 - 11 years.

Knowledge:  General knowledge of industry, practices, standards, and concepts within related operations and field of work. Familiarity with management practices.

Decision Making:  Typically makes decisions that impact short-term results.  Interprets and executes policies and guidelines set by higher level management. Determines how to meet schedules, allocating resources. Typically makes operational decisions independently.  Recommends  modifications to operating policies.  Problems are generally diverse and may impact multiple units.

Supervision Received:  Assignments are received in objective-oriented terms, and combine both strategic and tactical responsibilities.  Work is reviewed for unit's overall adequacy in meeting organizational objectives.

Leadership:  First level manager who typically manages exempt employees and or subordinate supervisors of non-exempt employees.  Direct reports typically exercise significant latitude and independence in their assignments.  Provides direction to subordinates based on general policies and management guidance. Develops and administers budgets, schedules, and performance requirements.

Problem Solving /Operations/Direct Work Involvement: Responsible for all projects assigned to subordinate unit.  Acts as advisor to subordinate supervisors, managers, staff, to resolve technical or operational problems.  Subject to approval, modifies organizational structure.

Client Contacts:  Frequent contacts with internal and external parties at various management levels concerning operations or scheduling project phases. Communication typically involves persuasion, and negotiation with middle and senior management levels.

 

Bachelor's Degree or equivalent level of knowledge in Product Management or Underwriting.
One or more years supervisory experience preferred.  Experience developing and implementing product or underwriting and coverage programs.
Must possess excellent communication (oral & written) and analytical skills.
CPCU, or working toward, preferred.
