Manager, Quality Assurance Engineering & Validation
Responsible for driving divisional performance by ensuring changes deployed into production systems meet functional and performance expectations. Manages the planning, evaluation, design and administration of performance, regression and functional testing for application and system modifications to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations. Responsible for evaluating and implementing process improvements, to include additional procedures, tools, and techniques to further improve development and performance engineering efforts. Provides recommendations and oversees the development of quality assurance processes, strategies, methodologies, technical policies and procedures.
Technology Quality Assurance • Oversees the implementation and control of software testing and implementation methodologies for all eCommerce applications. • Oversees the validation of system changes to ensure those changes meet desired requirements prior to deployment. • Owns the change control on the test and production environments that support all eCommerce-related systems. • Establishes and fine tunes effective and efficient quality assurance methodologies, and trains department personnel on the implementation of those methodologies. • Develops and/or enhances policies, processes and procedures to meet business needs and expectations. • Establishes performance standards of eCommerce technologies, ensuring they operate in adherence to Corporate guidelines and within federal, state, and local laws and regulations. • Identifies and drives testing and implementation requirements that can be aided through technology. Automation & Process Improvement • Participates in complex information systems projects and product reviews in an effort to provide automated technology solutions that meet defined business objectives. • Keeps aligned with the latest developments in the technology world to assess how they can be used to benefit the eCommerce Division and Walgreens. • Collaborates with business owners on how to improve quality and processes within the division and specific to systems and user acceptance testing. Facilitates user groups and vision committees for new and existing eCommerce systems. • Collaborates with Corporate and outside representatives to evaluate and implement systems, which utilize corporate resources, when possible, or to determine the most appropriate sources of systems for the benefit of the department's operations. Technical Leadership • Provides technical leadership and recommendations related to ensuring and improving the quality of technology being deployment into production. • Provides leadership on automation, tool deployment and engineering validation efforts that drive continuous quality improvement within the division. • Communicates status on all systems issues to executive level management, vendors, and all other stakeholders. Knowledge Transfer & Team Management • Cultivates team morale, motivation, and loyalty through continuous training and mentorship, setting obtainable performance goals, clear communication, and constructive feedback. • Provides leadership and exercises decision-making regarding priorities, best practices, methodologies, and operational execution to build and maintain a high performing team. • Bachelor's degree in related field from an accredited institution. • Advanced understanding of online technology and software development processes, methodologies, tools and best practices. • Knowledge of web-based technologies, and load testing techniques and tools. • Supervisory experience working in an online IT Q/A department/organization. • Expertise in Automated Testing using QTP • 8+ years QA experience • 5+ years management experience in complex environments • 5+ years experience with Unix/Linux; very comfortable using Unix/Linux tools (ssh, bash, cron, etc.) • Thorough understanding of web-based technologies and HTTP/HTTPS • 5+ years experience with Apache and Tomcat, or other Java Servlet container • 5+ years experience with an RDBMS, SQL and MySQL • 5+ years experience with automated test tools (e.g. WebLoad, Silk, etc.) • Experience building an online IT Q/A department and associated processes. • Ability to identify and analyze project needs with solid problem-solving aptitude. • Ability to manage internal and external business relationships and expectations through effective interpersonal communication, negotiating and partnering. • Ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously in a deadline driven process. • Willingness and ability to work weekends and/or outside standard business hours. • Ability to write clearly and informatively, alter writing style depending on audience, and present technical and non-technical information effectively. • Ability to speak clearly and persuasively, and express views in a diplomatic manner. • Ability to make and own decisions, while balancing input from key business stakeholders. • Ability to perform effectively during high pressure situations and communicate status to key stakeholders during problem resolution. • Ability to effectively influence and impact the performance of groups, subordinates and peers, to include the ability to gain acceptance of others in sensitive situations. • Diligence, detail orientation and follow through abilities.
